If you live in one state and always fill up in that one state but 25% of your miles is in the neighboring state, how does the govt know how many miles you really drove in that other state? Tolls at state border? That only shows you crossed state line, it doesn't show if you drove there for 20 miles or 40 miles. I'm just curious. Before you ask, I'm not trying to scam on my IFTA lol I only run in two states and whatever difference I gotta pay is pennies.

You are supposed to keep a written daily record for two reasons.

    1. So when you file your quarterly report it is accurate.

    2. When, or if, you are audited it can be verifed. The verification process includes BOLs, log books or ELD records, billing records etc.

Also, because the licensing agreement requires you to do so. Better read it!

They really don't but if you ever went through an audit, you have to produce them eveidence, not them.

Theres ifta software. Punch in your picks and drops and itll spit out the miles per state based on likely routing.

Get close enough and nobody's going to give you any trouble, close enough to me is within 5 to 10 miles or so.

I had an ifta/IRP audit back in 2010-
What triggered it was "estimating" option I used to calculate miles per state.(This was before the online ifta versions by state was even thought of)....

Silly me,I used estimated instead of "actual" miles... So My numbers were WAY off -They audited 12 months..

I Think i owed them an extra $150 Bucks, Wasn't a Big Deal- You can even drop them Off and they'll call you when their done auditing
