I don't follow LTL companies and how they work because I'm not one in a few months shy of 30 years out here I'm still not one

 

I'm surprised Walmart isint Union. Would save them a lot of money and they would make more. They would be able to make prices higher because of the Union argument (even if not true, prices would still go up for that profit). They would be able to pay drivers less as unions only care about money so Walmart giving the Union money would mean they still run things... Disney world is all Union and that's why hourly pay for employees is still at $9/hr there. My sister works there and says out of her $9/hr the Union gets $1 as dues. She was suspended for something silly that a visitor claimed she saw her do and she was told by Disney to call her Union rep... Phone number is disconnected. She went to the website, had a different phone number, that line was disconnected too... So she ended up being suspended 6 months because of the Union Disney could not fire her but my sister could not get a different job because of the pending case and she still owed dues... After 6 months she finally was able to get a proper address (as they do not have a Union customer service phone she comes to find out) she went to the place of business (4th address in 6 months) and they said oh we forgot to update or address on the website and they will call Disney to get her back to work... Sure enough her case was dismissed and she was back to work and her next 4 months paychecks were $0 because she had to catch up on dues from the past 6 months of not working.... Unions are great ideas. Their website still has the wrong address and phone number on it.... Before Union was introduced into Disney ticket prices were only $72 per person per day... The week it went active... Up to $92. Huge profit. Again I'm curious why Walmart is not Union already... Most people need Walmart to survive on foods and stuff. If Walmart gets Union they can easily increase their profit by 10-20% minimum since they employ nearly 10% of Americans the argument could easily be manipulated for such to the public...

 

I'm pro old school union. The type of Union that demanded that a worker gets paid fairly for their work. They understood that a business is there to make money. If you were a crap worker your co-workers and union were happy to get rid of you just as much as the company.

I can't stand the new unions. Over demand so the companies are not profitable. Lazy workers whining about having to work and then taking their time to make sure that it can be spread out.

I ran Chevron dedicated fuel delivery for an outside carrier when the Chevron terminal manager offered me a job. More money, better benefits and it was Union. I'm glad I didn't like the schedule and turned it down. A year later they got rid of all their trucks and they're lazy union workers.

A good union is great for the workers, a bad Union will kill the goose that laid the golden egg.

Not sure what you mean by that. New Walmart drivers? Or new drivers entering the trucking field in general? ... Being a Walmart specific forum, I'd guess the former... But dummies is too vague of a description as that is a matter of opinion... With that said, it is a fair deduction that indeed the new drivers too Walmart are dummies since over 50% quit within 6 months and 75% quit within 1 year... They obviously are not doing their home work/ research properly...

 

I’d love to know where you get you’re numbers from....just pulling them out of the air or can you quote a source? Been here over 5 months and haven’t heard any such thing (50% or 75%). The DC’s I been running out of have drivers retire and fired maybe but you make it sound like the new guys are quitting left and right. Hasn’t been the case in my area at least...

 

It may very well be just in my region (mid West). I know from experience as well as our last training session (3 days ago), though the manager/speaker/teacher said don't quote me on those numbers... My experience is I started in april about 5 months ago with 12 in my hire class. At the end of 60 days only 5 remained, as of now only 3. Again rumors but it's said all but 1 quit of their own request. The other was fired for reasons I do not know. The grocery DC about an hour away (I'm GM) is indeed losing 4 out of 6 people in as little as 60 days... With that said, that DC is still a work in progress as Walmart just "took over" about 7 months ago give or take and are still trying to get things"flowing" so that is perhaps a bad example... I've been to about 10 other DCs in my region and again the talk I over hear indicate that Walmart is pushing in a wrong direction and therefore older drivers are retiring early and the new drivers don't like the rules and long hours and feel they were lured by false advertisement.. which is true, I fell for it, but I have no intentions of quitting. As for training the other day, the teacher (I think a safety manager, I keep to myself and don't really mingle and therefore don't know who is who and what title they hold.) Said to expect further announcements about details, but this is the first announcement that there is going to be some changes in how loads will be delivered/handed to drivers with less than 1 year seniority due to the high turn over rate. Such changes are still being determined but will include items like, no NYC or Newark deliverys at all, and possibly no loads over 250 miles per trip unless with 3+ stops, something to that end, and limit the number of reefer loads per week. He did not say if this was to be company wide or just our DC. I suspect company wide. As I mentioned I have only been here 5 months. I have already done Newark loads. And did not care for it at all naturally, but talking with my trainer we are far enough away in the Midwest that it usually only happens once or twice a year. and the training a few days ago was just the new ELD system we swapped too, it was not a training for those upcoming changes lol... He just also provided general updates in addition to the training.... Like navigo is working on getting real time traffic so we can avoid traffic jams supposedly. As well as some other stuff. Oh and to answer your question those numbers were pulled out of thin air. But given the upcoming changes that were mentioned specifically for new hires, that percentage rate may in fact be close.

 

And what I meant by myself being lured by the false advertisement. (In relation to the title of the forum, tired if the BS.) I meant I hired on with hopes that the advertising of a relaxing, we care and treat you like family mentality was true... I hoped, but did not expect it. Therefore I was only dissappointed to learn they are just like all the rest. Didn't make me angry or feel I should quit. No I'm not dissing or bashing Walmart, just stating observations.
