Are you supposed to feel a tire blowout?

Probably didn't "blow out" in the traditional sense. Probably got a small hole in it, went flat. Then heated up from being under-inflated and started coming apart.

 

I've had trailer tires shred and never felt or heard a thing. I've also had trailer tires blowout and I nearly jumped out of the seat it was so loud. You get what you get.

 

Yep, that’s happened to me before.

Had a guy collar on the radio told me he got a flat tire on the trailer so OK thanks pulled into a tire shop about 10 miles down the road and had it swapped out.

 

Good. Nice cop too...Pretty good ending to the story.

But you also got lucky- This is the year 2019- We live in a world where everything is about money- and Hurting good people that are just doing a job.

You could have gotten a Jerk cop-

Sure he woulda stopped ya like this one-and told you of the problem while speaking to you in a tone like a parent scolding a child- Then gave you an inspection-While your already mad because of the tire.

he coulda wrote you tickets for tire chunks hitting his car and littering- YES,There are a ton of jerks out here today- Not like it used to be.

Worse case scenario,If he wanted to be the biggest Pric in the world- He coulda had you Towed if he felt you were blocking the road in any way.......

Im glad it went well for you- Others have paid the Price (including myself) For things that never had to be an issue.........Tough to live life as a young guy in these times doing things the right way.

 

I've had plenty of tires blow out, and I always hear and feel it. Sometimes loud and hard and sometimes just a mild thud thump.

I doubt any cop would site you for it, even if the debris hit his car. That is not something in your control.

I also doubt that a slow leaking tire would build up enough heat to shred it. It just goes flat on the rim and just rides along. Once the air pressure is gone there is nothing in there to build up that kind of heat.

 

I've had the same thing happen. Right rear inner trailer tire fell apart. Never felt it. The only way I noticed it was another driver pulled up beside me and got my attention, pointed back at my trailer, then shouted 'tire.' at me.

 

I got two tickets for a blowout, and I stopped and had called a service truck, one from a state cop and he called the dot, which gave me another one. When I objected to getting two tickets for the same thing, he said not to worry, he was wording it different. lol

 

Those loud ones will make you look around for the idiot firing the Abraham's tank beside you.

 

Well that isn't correct at all. A slow leaking tire will absolutely build up enough heat to cause it to fail. Most tire failures are caused by under inflation.

The op's tire could have lost air pressure for any # of reasons, but since it didnt actually blow up, then my money is on an air leak.
