Moved the truck to get fuel, now running out of hours

You cannot make up for your bosses oversight, no matter how loud he screams or what customers do. Would you buy fuel for the truck if he forgot to give you a fuel card. I wouldn't. Bosses make mistakes. They have telephones. They can reschedule. They have done it before. It's just freight. It's not the cure for stupidity they are shipping.

 

How did this turn in to the bosses fault??

 

No training on ELD, truck broke causing delay, appointment not moved. Presumably the boss has been aware of HOS and ELDs for longer than new driver.

 

Mechanical issues are going to happen, could be a boss problem, could be a driver problem, could just be something that happens.Sound like the boss did what he could to get him back rolling.
Driver was on a 34 hour break, why change the appointment???
Eld really has exactly nothing to do with it, you can't fuel on your 34 off legally, so training has nothing to do with this case.
Driver screwed the pooch, and probably fouled his next week up and the boss too, by him fueling if he intends to stay legal, no need to try and put the blame on someone else.
I get it that the driver didn't realize he was screwing up, hopefully he takes it as a learning experience.
New drivers wonder why they are not paid as well as experienced hands, well ruight here is a prime example, no boss can hold their hand and keep things like this from happening, and that is actually why most of us drive to start with, no boss looking over our shoulder all the time.

You need to be more detailed with times because from what I see, you run on your recap and that eight you spent waiting for the boss could be sleeper time.

 

You're right. From the post I cannot tell if the driver had no ELD training or didn't learn the training he did get. Maybe his company is scheduling him like the he's an expert in HOS and ELD or maybe not. I've got other things to worry about.

 

I have just been on both side of these deals, and it seems like it is easy to place blame on the boss, when it may or may not be anything they could have done.

 

The OP may have stayed On Duty after he fueled and parked, which would eat up hours.
If that is the case that time after fueling can be edited to Off Duty or Sleeper.

 

Ahh hell chalk her up to a rookie mistake and move on down the line.

 

If I had to deal with e-logs, no doubt I would make some rookie mistakes too.
