Tire problem

    They are designed so the pins wont go bed only roll bearing cups and you can reuse pins and save $600

    While this is not completely true. The pins should be replaced.

    Now I'm behind a few years, but Volvo did use a tapered kin pin, with a tappered roller bearing. You could remove shims from under the inner collar and tighten the kin pin. I recall working on some 1995 WIA's is about the earliest I recall. Good set up, but the pins do wear out.

    Couple different styles, here is the one with tappered roller bearing on top, more of a standard bushing on bottom.

    Ofcourse everything wears out eventually but if you don't neglect them and keep them adjusted properly they last a long long time, but the point was that they can be taken apart and readjusted. I believe all newer volvo's and macks are fitted with this pins now.
