I have a friend who does it in a straight truck (home delivery) and he has to have a hazmat and I think he makes around $25/hr. He's been there for like 14 years and seems to like it

KA-BOOM,, no thanks. Depends on location. A firm in N.Wis. was ( always) looking for a driver, starting at like $9 bucks an hour. I said, no wonder you're always looking for a driver. I knew a guy that diid fuel oil delivery, and he said people are idiots, when it's 10 below, they call with 10% left, and want it that day, along with all the other idiots that think they're the only ones in the world. Some long days when it's cold. Again, trudging that hose halfway across a field to a tank,,,no thanks.
VIDEODROME and 86scotty Thank this. -
I don't think they make enough.
The last good proper ice storm wiped us out for 3 weeks essentially back to 1810's living firewood for the water and cooking.
All we heard was the trouble it takes to get a blessed gallon of propane back then about 1999 storm. War ist dat tank man, &^%$ WAR! (Where... heavy accents...)
One ran half hunched over from his truck stumbling a little from being overworked after the Governor lifted the HOS rules and tossed all others that regulate their driving to support the propane emergency. Someone caught him and stuck him in the car to drive home.
Just like I used to do trying to walk with some of the outlaw outfits I ran for in regular freight.
We had a encounter at a racetrack where they blew a 800 gallon propane tank and it took a hour and half for all that Iron to put it out in a formal fireman's convention type assembly/rodeo. Silver liquid splashed out, flare spun to it and WOOOF!
1st degree burns half up the bleachers and sunburned me and the rest in a hour.
What a fire.91B20H8 Thanks this. -
CDL, Hazmat and tanker. I make $23/hour with full benefits.
Ask me anything you wanna know about the jobTugHillRider, D.Tibbitt, Midlife Trucker and 2 others Thank this. -
In my area (Washington state) propane drivers make between $21 and $25 to start. I did that for a while and it's not a hard job most of the time. As I recall, the hardest parts were dealing with hornet nest under the tank hood, being careful not to overfill the tank, and not letting idiots get under your skin.
Texas_hwy_287, TugHillRider, D.Tibbitt and 3 others Thank this. -
I do it off and on. We don’t make squat on propane.
D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
Maine, we are a poor state. Starting wages are $18/hour. Hazmat and tank endorsed. Most any truck driving school will make sure that you have these endorsements before you leave.

Not much better here in Ny I guess either. Was interested in driving for Suburban at one point.
