I'm not trying to discourage you driver...but as others have said: " Money and friends should not be mixed. The same goes for family". That's my opinion and I have a ton of bad experiences to back up that opinion. No way do you want bad feelings at the Thanksgiving day table. You get the idea.

It seems like nobody before me asked this question so I'll be the first... Do you have a CDL? How many years experience do you have? Are you mechanically inclined to fix your own equipment if need be?

On a side note. Take out a piece of paper and run the numbers. Get down to your per day cost of "having" the truck. This is all a numbers game...

I don't have a CDL but i am in the process of getting it. I am mechanically inclined...it is my current day job lol. I have run the numbers on a sheet but it just seems like they are not right because i am at around $4,500 a week for expenses. The relative is going to show me his weekly spread sheet on all his trucks next week so I have a real world idea and not just "oh hey this is what that guy told me" numbers.

Your insurance bill is not gonna be pretty with no experience.

$4500... is the majority of that the truck payment?

Show what you have for your weekly fixed expenses.

There's no way they should be anywhere close to $4500.
Even with a new truck payment with running under your relatives authority your fixed expenses should be somewhere around $1000 - $1200. If you can't get your fixed expenses down to at least those levels you have no chance at success.

The Driver is $800. Truck is $750. Insurance is $170. Fuel is $1,000. Taxes $800. Workers comp $400. Maint is $250. I am at $4,170. Driver is 40 cents a mile. For 400 miles a day. If these numbers seem way the hell off then let me know cause that is the problem i am at right now.

so you are going to pay a driver $800 on a 1099. you do realize a good driver takes good care of his or hers boss equipment. my buddy does the same stuff. he wonders why he cant keep drivers. a man or woman deserves a good decent wage.
