Mine as well become a union tradesman. Pretty sure it’s 8 years to hit journeyman scale.

Don't get me wrong, FedEx has their sticking points on things they rival the 3rd reich about, but overall culture is very pro-driver and a friendly environment to work in. I don't want to leave the FX umbrella if I don't have to. I'll never make as high of a rate as UPS/UPSF, but I get the impression that I'll have a much happier and stress free career as a result.

My brother in law is a lineman for twco and makes something absurd like $56/hr but it it's like a 16 year progession lol.

Also, when I last looked into an Express center that was hiring for RTDs (equivalent of feeders), they were hiring around $18.xx/hr.

    I couldn't stop laughing.

I think you will be too. UPS is very anti driver. I hear it even more now from management at coke because they are all ex ups management too. They are backing Amazon in this trying to get into moving packages so they can sell off all ground service, get rid of the teamsters, and run a air only operation like DHL. My boss was telling me that the other day, he is a retired UPS district manager. He said he went to one of those Ted talks kind of things within UPS and they layed out the whole plan. I don't see it happening but it gives you a lil insite on what they think of their employees lol.

Yea it’s worth it but you got to start young. I looked into getting into electrical apprenticeship but 14 bucks an hour and some unpaid training to start won’t fly with my wife, kids, and mortgage.

We had a guy start with us yesterday that's gonna be riding with me for a few days so I can show him the ropes. He came from XPO. He said they would run you 3 12 hour days then bring you in for 4 hours to yard jockey so they wouldn't have to pay overtime lol. I haven't heard anything really good about XPO but #### lol. I wonder if that's just the Tampa barn or if they are all like that? I also see a bunch of Cubans in ####ty box trucks delivering furniture "leased" to XPO. I wonder what that's all about.

Now, my previous comments being said, while in my barn at the current top rate will limit me to about $130k, in my current lane, as I climb the position from the bottom to top, my take home will be the same (about $100k), however, as I climb that list my time spent at work decreases. I'm fine with reducing my time spent at work instead of hitting those giant paying runs for a bid. Heck, from a pure numbers standpoint, my bid runs an average of 13.5 hours away from my home every day due to waiting for the hub to fill my trailers (last in the lane). By sheer calculation, 3510 annual hours at work on $100k salary equates to an overall rate of $28.49/hr for all hours spent away from home. Getting to the top 1-3 spots in that lane averages about a 9 hour day, or 2340 annual hours, or $42.73/hr. I get more impactful raises by spending less time at the company than I do waiting for cost of living raising and the like.

I'm torn with what I want to do at work because of time away from home. I really like running the linehaul, it's kinda fun putting some real miles on the truck and the hotel is nice they get me. The other side of that is I was a ####ing beast of a package car driver so I can destroy the coke routes and work 10 hours or under a day most days if I run a delivery route. We don't get case pay so I'm kinda working for free but I really don't need the money anymore, I think I would rather be at home.
