    Land of the free...

I am a FIRM believer in the United States being the land of the free and the ability for people to pursue happiness.

But I have concerns regarding the safety within the industry. And I need your wisdom to learn more.

Here are some topics I would like to learn:

    * Are work visas being issues for drivers to come to US for lower wages?
If so - Current immigration laws prohibit work visas for unskilled labor. I don't agree that they classify some trucking as unskilled labor... But if work visas are being issued, how are they getting around the "unskilled" rules?

    * What processes are in place to make sure foreign drivers are properly trained?
There are so many different hands in the cookie jar... We have the Feds, States, Private Industry... How is this all being tracked and made complaint with a common safety goal?

    * Are companies using certified mechanics on their rigs?
Is bubba's truck fix'r upper palace doing major work on rigs?
Can an owner/operator work on his own rig?
Is there a leasing company out there who specializes in leasing sub-standard tractors to individuals?

    * What short cuts are being used by foreign drivers?
Are they getting their CDL's through a couple company cert places?

Are they all getting licensed in a single state that is lax on training?

    Sub-standard tire providers?

Are there companies out there selling sub-standard tires? Especially steer tires?

What processes are in place to inspect tires before installing them on rifg?

    In summary...

I am ALL FOR folks coming to America to pursue their dreams. But I am concerned about the safety in the industry and what loop holes are being used by folks to "get their foot" in the door.

Please respond kindly with your years of wisdom.

    Thanks

Loop holes , American companies representing by ATA are lobbying (bribing) politicans for younger and more unqualified drivers everyday. Unsafe ? These Megas are allowed to self insure yet they kill Hundreds every year many of which are represented by ATA . If they go through the proper channels and get a CDL like everyone else I see no problem. If they are a dangerous driver they will be weeded out just like any other driver . 2 cents

actually i received a letter from the state of ohio and I need to renew my cdl and need to prove citizenship or legal resident status thats in ohio ..... good deal and about time during my last physical the nurse told me that not being able to read and comprehend the questions on medical is an automatic fail so at least some states are trying its not too hard to figure out which states are not like Illinois and California which seem to pick and choose the laws they seem to follow

Your are OFFICIALLY required for CDL holder to know basic English, corruption was since humans discovered government, there is someone trying to make extra money on a side and giving CDL to pretty much anyone who have 2 eyes and 2 legs

When I moved back TN and was taking the HazMat test the dude beside was taking some CDL test on his computer. He never uttered a word of English. He kept failing the test and they immediately gave him another test. He was there before I started and there when I left. He took the test at least 5 times while I was there. This was around 2000.

they should give an English test at the scales and anytime you are pulled over. they have no problem checking log books or trucks .now that states are picking and choosing which laws they need to enforce and which ones they are ignoring the purpose of cdl has been eliminated. the cdl rule was to have a national standard now that doesnt exist any more and it seems some states are extra lenient on illegal aliens anyway compared to citizens . if a law is stupid change it if not enforce it , if they want to pick and choose which law to ignore we should have that right also .

Should have English language as a standard for CDL and regular drivers license in EVERY state.
