I just started driving an 17 year old truck with an Eld exempt N14. It's not perfect or near as nice as @jamespmack has but it is a T600 with 8 bag ride that honestly rides as good as the 2020 Cascadia I was driving. And the T600 is way quieter in the cab while rolling down the highway. And goes downhill at 80mph smooth as glass.
New company giving me old truck

We have two trucks that are twenty years old and still have the same driver on them from the day they were new.
Every time we get new equipment I ask them if they want to up-grade and the answer is always the same...No.speedyk, Texas_hwy_287, jamespmack and 3 others Thank this. -
now that truck and nearly ALL the trucks in the NEMF fleet were paid for DOZENS of times over, so it cost next to nuffin to fix them, and those suckers ran and ran..
I KNOW, my line-haul truck broke down, and what was i given to drive from RI to elizabeth, NJ..???
YUUUP, you guessed it, a RD MACK, 7 speed, spring suspension, (dear god almighty the cross bronx) and a whopping 53 mph's......
i nearly died when i was told that was MY truck was down for the night. and if you only knew how I WISHED the RD would break down BEFORE i left the yard...but NOOOPE, that SOB ran and ran.....!!!!!!!!

Age doesn’t matter. Do a proper pre trip and if she’s safe roll on driver. Want a new truck but it yourself.
kuzima93, jamespmack, Swine hauler and 2 others Thank this. -
I tested on one of these in 2001. Never drove it for work tho but did drive it to the tax collector and test in it. Then when I started driving a package car it was a 1978...also in 2001.
jamespmack and buddyd157 Thank this. -

met in shop and talked??? Friend went back to his car and left....
Son walked over to me sitting on the ready bench.. I quote: If you are not too ###### good to drive that
truck, you are hired and its is yours.
Less than a year later, I rode up to Ft Wayne on a load and drove my new truck back.
Time and willingness will tell.speedyk, jammer910Z and FlaSwampRat Thank this. -

If you are trying to some how imply that the chain drive truck story is fantasy or a lie I would suggest you stop that idea immediately. As far as I know the steam up days is a annual ongoing event and there is no gain in lying.
In fact I really have a hard time with people who like to imply or suggest rather than say it to my face if they think what I did in real life with that rig is flat BS. We dont need to be having a trouble about that because we are finished here about that. -
I’d say it depends upon the miles, cpm, and average length of haul.
A 12 year old truck means they should be able to pay me more.
Also, if no APU, is it free idle?
If not, that company does not care about your comfort nor safety.FlaSwampRat Thanks this.
