I used to work as a company driver for this one company that picked up dry bulk loads in CT and delivered them to Owen's Corning in Kearny, NJ. It was an easy job.
I called that company and they are not looking for owner ops. So that's a dead end. I figured to try Owen's Corning itself.
This is what i found- Our Carrier Service Team - Contact Us
I dont have my own authority yet but I'm working on that. So now the question is, if I have my own authority, what are the chances of submitting a form like the one above and signing a contract with a company like Owen's Corning while only having a single truck?
I know they sub the work out to a few local companies such as Modern Transportation, QualityCarriers, and "some guy" who has like 5 trucks.
I'm trying to get straight to the source but with a single truck... is that even possible? Would a company that big even look at a new tiny carrier that wants to grow?
"Getting in" to deliver for Owen's Corning. Advice?

My buddy contacted Owen's Corning in Summit, Illinois to inquire about being a carrier for them hauling shingles on a flatbed... He was informed by them that they only contract with companies that have a minimum of 60 trucks...
mudflap77, Intothesunset, Tug Toy and 2 others Thank this. -
60 trucks is around $3 million in equipment on the low end. So... how can a regular guy even attempt to grow to that size if nobody is willing to take them on? Gotta rob an armored truck to get started I suppose...Tug Toy, NavigatorWife and JonJon78 Thank this. -
There are lots of shippers out there that will work with you.
Nothing special about waiting in line for hours and hours to haul shingles.
We have a couple of small shippers that only move like 20 loads a month.
A few others that have 50 to 100 loads a day that we have access too.
Frankly all but one of them sucks.
We have 6 trucks total, but I could work with all of them with just 1 truck. You may not get 1st pick of the loads though? The main house carriers ( companies with capacity ) get first pick.JonJon78, Opendeckin and Intothesunset Thank this. -
I had a very large shingle company as a customer once and only ended up doing around 10 loads before ditching them. Same as a lot of companies wanting it moved for free.Opendeckin and Tug Toy Thank this. -
If you want direct business, why compete in the freight sector with a million other morons.
Go get yourself a hopper,a dump or a cattle pot.
Yes,you can get your own customers should you choose to stay in the freight sector, but you have to sweat blood, dig deep and swallow some pride.....
Do something that the 60 truck carrier can't.
Get them sales slacks on and get started.
99 percent of 1 truck operators play with brokers because they just don't have the time and patience.
I was one of them,till 1 day I said to myself,enoughs enough....
I slaved to the grind for my outbounds, now I have a great personna in my area in transportation
