I learned how to drive a 281 Peterbilt with a 262 Cummins in the early 80s, but I didn't start driving for a living until 1998. What surprises me about late model iron is how small the radiators are. Yes, they run a little hotter, but still the cooling systems do the job now when they didn't before.

I have 2 theories of why. First, aluminum is a better conductor of heat than copper is, so the radiators work better. Second is the fans and shrouds work a lot better than they did then.

If I were putting a big engine in a narrow hood, I'd make sure that my radiator had an an extra row. If standard is 3 row, then I'd get a 4 row.

I meant I've seen them, just not any from the 80's. Should have been more specific lol. The green/white one in that link I've seen at Hot Nite in the City in Kamloops a few times. A lot of pride went into that build.

Man, are those pretty. I see the grill on that '08 T170s actually smaller, so I guess it's only a matter of will it fit. It's drivin' me friggin nuts that it's so dang hard to find basic dimensions.

The last time I saw a pre-70 kw was at Vander Haag in pa.

As for the a/c, lots ways to mount the condenser with fans under the cab or behind it.
