There’s decent stuff out there that doesn’t make the load boards. Vault toilets, decorative and private driveway bridges, structural steel. Things like that. But it would be tough for someone to get their foot in the door unless they were looking to be out there a lot.

I run it every day. Naturally I won’t tell you where the money loads are since that’d be like kicking myself in the nuts right before you do. Mostly there’s scrap metal coming from every large town around the state that goes to Billings, Boise or into northern Utah. Tarped lumber loads from Missoula to everywhere. You’re not going to make any money on those loads though. Expect $1.20-$1.80 mile. It’s better to just not truck to Montana. Ever.

THIS- is the reply I was looking for

Good freight- Never seeing any board anywhere,ever- From Smaller manufacturing companies in town- Not out in the fields.
Very,Very Hard to get- Even the megas with their Hopscotch sales punks couldn't get it.

Even push out the sales slobs over at Mercer and Landstar.

So Who gets it?? The Quiet, Relaxed,Tenurized carrier with 20-30 trucks, Running a no-nonsense operation with union style motives....

I usually only run MT, ID, WY, UT, eastern WA, and the Dakotas. In a cutthroat business like this in a rough area like Montana there are no friends to be made. I’ve learned this by trying to help other guys out while getting #### on in return.

Lumber or dirt out of WY... ... ...
You need to cover the cost of leaving before you go in. :)

Yeah it’s pretty rare to go to Wyoming. I’ve hauled pipe that paid pretty well out of there before.

It’s been like that for a long time. The maxi guys stick together and will trade work, the truckload guys try and steal work from each other.

stwik, Gumper and bzinger Thank this.

I'm impressed you're able to make a living running there on 5 axles. I'm happy to just get out of there for 1.8 most the time.
