I’m also curious... why do you drive a truck? Spinning your wheels for some corporation must not be very satisfying. I mean, you are not exactly seeing the world at its best... (truck stops and the travel oasis.. etc...)
Don't work yourself into a bad standard of living

There are so many examples of people who picked themselves up from the mud... As a Ranger I was never allowed to quit. Anyone can get out... to believe it should be left to circumstance and luck, that there is nothing you can do....
You were beaten before you even tried. No offense... but millions of people have gotten out of a life that sucked. I’m sorry, but anyone can with effort. -
... and Ghent, I do respect where your coming from... please don’t take offense.
We just come from different places...D.Tibbitt, dwells40 and GhentSaintPeters Thank this. -
Theres my wife and I's account balance right now. No cash in my wallet.. Maybe $2 in the ash tray. We have both worked since early teen years without stop, both veterans, have worked two jobs at a time. Both lost our life savings, both lost houses. I was saving at 6yrs old.
No drugs, no drinkin, no smoking, no gambling, no prison, no welfare, no healthcare, no game consoles and no vacations ever. I never turn my nose up at a job. Ive split wood in a pile of cow patties for enough gas to get to work. Ive welded on septic tank pumpers. We sold the TV, have cheap old smartphones, live as minimalist as possible. Raising 2 excellent kids and go to church on sundays. Im at work right now.
I cant say that there was any huge mistakes in our life.. Just normal decent people with decent families that had the right combination of wrong turns that never let up.. Its been like this 9 years now. I have accepted that it is the Lords will for us to be in the boat we are in, and have made peace with it. We have an appreciation for things normal people do not. And truthfully, money cant buy what ive got anyhow. We manage by the grace of God, one day at a time.
Anyhow.. We are proof that you dont have to be rotten, lazy or stupid to be down on your luck. I was an avionics tech and the wife has saved quite a few lives in the medical field. We dont beg or borrow either.Gearjammin' Penguin, Tropsnart, lynchy and 3 others Thank this. -
Two words:
Dave Ramsey.dwells40 Thanks this. -
You tell dave ramsey that when he wants to learn how to stretch a dollar, call me.

.. and where do you live? Do you drive? For whom and why? Your a veteran... did you know that many companies are now paying vets to be retrained... even college.
Your wife is in the medical field. There are many places where ANY profession in the field is sought after. They’ll even pay for you to move.
Just reading your post I hear your despondency. You have relegated yourself to your lot in life... it is what it is, in your mind.
I’m not trying to be critical... I’m just telling you what I hear... you were AV Tech? Air Force? Navy? Corp?...
Somewhere in your bank account there is a mistake. When we’re trying to show someone something on the internet we tend to show the lighter side.. even when we struggle. If both of you are working, especially with your wife’s skill set, your spending money somewhere you shouldn’t be.
Luck changes. Even John The Baptist knew someone was coming (The one who is coming is stronger than I) (Mark 1 5-8)
Keep going to church. Faith is important. Is someone home with the kids? If you both work it’s nights for one of you... I know couples in that predicament... kids come first.
Nothing is permanent. Jesus said let there be light.. your faith I think will guide you to the light.
That said... your attitude is a lot of who you are. Do you know what a growth Mindset is? Read the book... a couple of bucks at goodwill or used book store. If that can’t be had... PM me an address and I’ll send you a copy.
It isn’t easy... I know that... but there are ways out.
Thanks for sharing your story.Gearjammin' Penguin, D.Tibbitt and FoolsErrand Thank this. -
Let me just say that I’m not blind in seeing people who work hard and yet are struggling financially. No money doesn’t automatically mean laziness.
There are people who squeeze every ounce of their will to succeed. I’ve seen fellow soldiers who wanted to be Rangers so bad they jumped into a phase of the school with a broken ankle... duct taping it to graduate. I once had to throw creek water on his face because he passed out from the lack of sleep and the pain he was in.
Life’s a #####...D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
