That log you sign is a lawful document binding you to that record. Your company edits NOTHING. What they MAY do is issue violations TO you and show the DOT that a violation was made by you and the company took disciplinary action.

You have two choices, Whistle blow that company or quit. Find someone else to work for or both.

 

How about this for a BIGGER boat.

"We mucked with the logbooks against current regulations, we have been put out of business and ordered closed by DOT."

 

This is very bad and very illegal OP. if you get caught doing this, it's on you.

I understand you said you're in financial struggles right now. But, you need to run legally or find another job. Period. Chinatown could probably have you OTR with an OTR company who will bus you out this very week. That OTR job can hold you over until you figure out your next move.

But - Do not run illegally OP. It WILL come back to bite you in the ###.

@Farazar you need to get OUT of this bad situation in a ###### hurry. If you don't, you risk ending your career.

 

Do not let your driving partners drive on your time, or you drive on theirs. I have had several occasions so far where my driving partner wanted to try something like this. Do not let them. It's illegal. You can get fired, even thrown in jail if something happens. You'd be amazed how many people just don't care. But you do care, so don't allow it to happen.

Also make sure that when you are finished driving, you sign out of the computer. Do not go back into the sleeper until this has happened and your co driver is in the Qualcomm. I have had an occurrence or two where new drivers I was with would just start driving and it would put me back into drive.

 

In this industry you have to learn to stand your ground especially on situations where some one is trying to get you to bend or break the rules. Companies, brokers, dispatchers and customers will always try to push you into things that can ruin your driving career.

A split like that if caught could be potentially career ending. And you have to think of the what if’s. What if there’s a crash, even if it’s not your fault or your codrivers. If your in violation of your hours of service you could still be liable. Which could lead to lawsuits, fines, possible jail time, and imprisonment if there’s a fatality. Always protect yourself. Shortcuts cost you more in the end than you could ever gain in the short term

 

You most certainly can split sleeper, even today. Current regs allow a single 8 hour sleeper berth to stop the 14 hour clock. That combined with an additional 2 hour break, either all sleeper, all of duty or a combination of the 2 to reset thec14 hour clock. The additional 2 hours need not be taken at the same time and the 2 hour break counts against the 14.

A little difficult, but it allows a driver to avoid taking a 10 hour sleeper break while the truck is moving.

 

Not meaning to sound like a buster, BUT you're part of the problem. Your co-driver is the other part of the problem. she actually agreed to all of this? You knew that what you were planning to do was illegal. You dont risk jail time just to have a job. The very first time the boss mentioned this stuff, you should have instantly put him in check. He wouldn't have fired you.
