It's 20" from the back wall of the sleeper but you could probably get away with 14.5 to 15. Just enough for it to be able to draw air between the cab and the unit.

The AC draws between 700-1000 watts while running. I'd see about maybe doing some golf cart batteries with an isolator if you want to do without a generator.

Want to know why they break down a lot? Cause drivers don’t get them serviced in time or run them low on oil because they’re not checking it every couple of days. It’s a small engine with a surprisenly small capacity of oil so you got to keep an eye on it.

why not drill a hole in the side of your exaust stack weld a bung to it and attach your generator exaust there. Then any rain or wash water would fall past rather than in your generator exaust and get blown out by the big engine

What kind of truck does the APU come with?

I thought about it, but I don't want exhaust that's heavily laden with hydrocarbon and CO to be backing up into the SCR when the truck engine isn't running. The conduit was easy to attach and really, the only issue is the deluge from the overhead rinse at the Beacon. I just fire it up for a minute after I pull out.

2200 hours on the generator and AC so far.

Unless I had a custom built house on the truck, there is no way I would mount a heavy rooftop unit on a regular sleeper, that has not been built for the unit.
My trucks are old enough that idling them does not hurt as much as the new ones, and Inever idlesd unless the temps were pretty bad along with humidity, so I doubt if fuel savings would have ever paid for an apu and the maintenence

i forget about those kind of issues cause none of my junk is new enough to have any of that...lol i think you would probably be fine though. i thought of doing that with my espar is why i mentioned it. but iv never really had any issues with the exhaust getting in the cab.

    Rideandrepair and lilillill Thank this.

When apu's first started hitting the scene, most were plumbed into the exhaust, but that didn't last long, as they can be mounted a long way from it at times and I guess it is just cheaper not too.
