Where does it say they were being hauled on an unrefrigerated trailer?

The way people in Hegins talk with that accent they have, they deserve to be egged. Should happen more often, but with better aim and more velocity. Maybe they'd learn to speak Eeengleesh bah-tur.

Just kidding, former work colleagues from Hegins. Which they say Hay-geens.

Wheeled carts on a flatbed... what could go wrong?

Not sure actually since the picture may not be of the trailer the eggs fell off of. If it were a reefer, then the doors must have swung open. I guess I assumed it's an open deck trailer since the articles all talk about the load shifting and the investigation of an unsecured load, which I tend to associate with open decks. But they could be referring to a box, too.

Another story says that the eggs were fertilized and on their way to an incubator. So these weren't going to be eaten as eggs, they were going to be grown into little baby chickens.

Oh the humanity! All that wasted food. grin Where is the nearest PETA agent to complain about all the eggs that were destroyed? (pardon me while I barf)

Eggs fresh from a farm will keep just fine if kept around 50F. So yes they could have been hauled on that open trailer. My sister inlaw brings us farm fresh warm eggs quite frequently. Granted we do refrigerate them upon recieving them.

Makes more sense for the lack of refrigeration.

Fresh eggs don’t have to be I leave them out at room temperature as I do my butter! Believe it or not a jar of mayo can be left out to as long as it’s never been refrigerated.
