Every since I’ve registered for my DOT I’ve not only received endless phones but mail as well. I received a mail from Supervisor Compliance Training Department regarding a mandatory drug and alcohol training. I’ve yet to hit the road yet just trying to get my ducks in a row but my question is, is this a legitimate mail? Cost is $99 for a 2 hour training session online and if I don’t register I could be fined up to $10k.

check with the OOIDA if you are a member, maybe it is cheaper. i think that as an o/o you need to have a drug/alcohol testing set up for randoms, etc.

    it's called a "consortium" i think

Yes, you’re right. I have to register with consortium. I came across this online, I’m hoping the below in red is true. My CDL test is at the end of the month so at the moment I don’t have a CDL but I’ve received 3 letters already. Just want to verify since I do receive a lot of mail stating I need to pay for this and that(junk mail trying to get money from people).

    • If you operate vehicles that require a CDL on the public roads and you have more than one employee in the company, you are required to get DOT Supervisor Training.
    • Owner-operators are not subject to DOT supervisor training. However, you are still required to register with a consortium for DOT drug and alcohol testing.
    • Employers need to ensure that the required content is made available to all persons designated to supervisor drivers.
Based on the above consortium and the training are two different things?

Owner-operators are not subject to DOT supervisor training.

means that you do not need to pay for that class.[/B]

but once you hire someone to drive, then YES, you have to have that class.[/B]

Ok, well I don’t have my cdl yet and when do I’m only a single member LLC so looks like I can disregard the letter. It was abit scary when I read I can be fined. I will register for the consortium though.
