Just talked to one of our drivers
He got there at 10:30 and left at 3:30 and he left empty, never got loaded.
Lightning been going on all day. Dispatch told him to just leave
still.pouring rain and lightning as I type this
I think its has to stop lightning for 30.min before they'll start.loading again.
You could go 29 min with no lightning and one crack of thunder will start that clock all over again

Bud A. and ChicagoJohn Thank this.

Yep, I'm on the clock and I'm running my 14 hours out before I head home. There is no way I'm getting loaded, but I was told I should stay till my clock ran out, which will be about 20:45. o_O
Plus traffic is a mess still and I have to go back to Joliet.

My last flatbed gig was like that. I'd get back to the yard to get loaded or unloaded and go in to check with the boss. He or the guy in charge of the loaders would say, "Lightning, gotta wait." They'd have the dang weather map up that showed lightning strikes. Anywhere within 10 miles within 30 minutes and no loading or unloading.

Sometimes though I'd just roll in and unstrap and the best loader would see me and swing over and pick that utility pole up off my trailer and disappear back into the stacks with it so I could get out of there. Some rules are kinda dumb, honestly. The lightning was going to zap the thousands of tons of steel around us, not hit us. Anyone could see that!

I'm on elogs, but as on OO we can pc home. Technically I am elog exempt since I have a 97 motor in my glider, but company still wants us to use elogs.

When I left at 20:15 there were 3 Hoffman guys who were told they had to wait by dispatch. IMTT was talking about bringing in a relief shift so 3rd shift could go home at 23:00.
