Does UPS hire established teams? If so, what would be the experience requirements? And do they have the option to run like they are OTR? In any case 4-5 day work weeks sound awesome, especially at those pay scales, along with the all the other benefits.

I'm sure they do, but there's no way to absolutely guarantee you guys would be running together. It's a strong likelihood, of course. But no way to absolutely guarantee it.

There are cards up everywhere with guys looking for team partners. So I guess if you have a preference, they took that into account.

IF we're talking ups freight, then i would bet yes; We are scrambling for drivers and teams. You may not get to train together though.

The fact the you find it odd that people want to be home everyday is laughable and makes me think you are some.sort of antisocial type. Being gone from home for weeks or months at a time sounds like a nightmare.

When your running the road away from home your entire life revolves around the truck. Your life is consumed by work, 24/7. Youre basically sleeping in your office. On top of that you arent even making a lot of money for doing that. Sounds like living hell.

I'm ot micromanaged at all. As long as I dont doing anything unsafe im left one. I dont wear a uniform. I do wear a company shirt but that's because I dont want to tear.up my own clothes at work.

People have different tastes. There's a job for everyone. I don't think any one type of trucking job is better than another, or makes you more of a "real driver." Over the road has isolation, local requires more thought, delivery often requires immense physical activity. There are downsides to everything.

Another facet to the OTR vs. local thing is that when we run hot and heavy, then LTL linehaul basically IS like OTR but you're sleeping in your own bed . Your home becomes sort of like a truckstop because there is only time enough to eat, go to sleep, shower and do it all over again........

I wish it had been that way at ABF. They would bounce me from hotel to hotel for 6 days straight some weeks. Not a fan.

Meh, if your on a scheduled run nothing really changes if it gets super busy. They might hit you up to run extra on the weekends but that's it. Doesnt bother me, I run extra on the weekends a lot of the time anyway. ...... Your run doesnt get any longer if freight levels rise.

I did have a super long run at one point, and yes, it was usually a mad dash to get home to eat, shower and try to get as much sleep as possible. Isnt fun, but it is fun seeing those big paychecks for the 3000+ mile weeks. Even in that case sleeping in my own bed and using my own toilet is beyond preferable to sleeping in some old musty motel.

I concur with that statement. US Foods guy here. 1/2 the time we get a lift gate and a pump jack (no e-jack). The other half it’s 750-1000 cases of school food with 2 hand trucks and a ramp. No surprise the driver turnover rate here is big.
