The absolute worst road I ever drove wasn't because of ruts. It was the rut patches Texas laid down on US-285 from the New Mexico border to Pecos. Instead of ruts you had two mounds right where trucks would want to be lined up. No shoulder at all. Soft sand beyond the non-existent fog line.
You try to stay on top of the mounds, but that's an impossible task. If you shy toward the zipper you could clip oncoming traffic. If you shy to the "fog line" you risk taking a rollover ride in the desert.
The best strategy was going for the zipper when oncoming traffic wasn't an issue, then ride the carnival over the humps toward the drop off when traffic was coming.
That road has been under perpetual repair for the last six years.FlaSwampRat Thanks this. -

I can think of several. US50 in MD from MM 108 to 112, I-795 in MD from exits 1 to 4 and that’s been there 30 plus years. There’s I-495 in DE, and Rt 1 in DE from Dover to Bear. The concrete sections of 95 in SC aren’t bad anymore now since they were planed down. 95 in JAX, southern end I think, is a nice stretch of concreteLepton1 Thanks this. -
They might have a seam right where your tires were in the lane......

How much do those big boys weigh out in Vegas? The double belly dump and side dumps?
Their roads are smooth as glass and mostly blacktop and those heavy trucks are all over.
Unrelated but sort of related... anyone work for Las Vegas paving? Planning on moving there in 5-6 years and do all things paving now and plan on doing the same there. -
Ha! Come up to Carlisle on 81. Stay in the right lane between mm 46 and 49. You might just change your mind.
To be fair to concrete roads though, when they're done correctly, they are nice. Problem is, Pennsyltucky can't seem to do blacktop or concrete correctly.
It really baffles me with blacktop though. Pennsyltucky's typical excuse is the winter weather wreaks havoc on the road base. But yet, I can go across 68 in Maryland from Hancock to the WV line with an open cup of coffee and not spill a drop. And I'd argue they have worse winter weather than anywhere in PA.
