That's what insurance is for. Lawyers can help negotiate along with the insurance company. The other guys insurance will always low ball the offer for repair etc.
Been down that road when my wife was hit. Medical bills etc and the initial offer from the insurance company didn't even cover it all. Once we retained a lawyer all of the sudden the second offer doubled without any negotiating.
The goal of insurance companies is to always assume the payee is nieve and offer the least amount possible.
I'm not saying go all Johnny Cochran on that ### but it certainly creates leverage.

Nice thread. Do you mind sharing a little information on how collections have gone for you? Average wait time to get paid? Been stiffed much or at all? Everybody's check been good? Having to lean on or chase after anybody to get paid? I haven't noticed you addressing this part of your experience so far. Thanks. And I'm glad you walked away from that drunk driver encounter. Too many people don't.

Leaving out tomorrow. My pickup arrived at the collision center, so I’ll let them do their thing.
I had another late check come in. A broker I pull for was working for Rains and Sons out of Perkins, OK. They’re no longer in business and Western Flyer bought them out. He migrated over to Western Flyer and my check finally arrived, a hair over 14k. Rains got a little too spendy and ran out of cash. This check was from 3 months ago. He made sure I got paid.
Got a short run tomorrow from OK to Memphis area to get things rolling.
My reefer and trailer had some small annoyances to get taken care of and the truck needed it’s Federal annual. Got the new tires on and ready to roll.
