the waste gate "dumps" extra boost if you over boost....hence the term WASTE gate
starmac Thanks this. -
Yes. That it does but that's not all it does.
Not important information to most of us.
Actuator does control spool and that is connected to the waste gate to be technical I guess.Last edited: Feb 5, 2018

RichardTheRN my 14 liter ran like that after the first egr delete the guy told me to put a 220 ohm resistor on boost sensor ran good after that but ive since had leon tune it no need for the resistor

Something else if you have not ran the Detroits before. They will fool you into thiking there not pulling. So you shift early, when they for the most part. Keep on pulling down to 1200 to 1250. But most feel it needs to be shifted around 1400. And it just keeps you digging deeper into the trans..
I started running these engines in a 1987 model in 1988. Took me a week or so to get used to it. Plus a trip to Detroit shop in Memphis. They turned it up and off I went. Top speed was 82 MPH. But would pull great for a small engine.
And it even being a 11.1, would pull down to 1200. But most times get to 1250 and keep digging.
The 1995 I have not with 11.1 10 speed direct and 2.92 gears. For what it is pulling like a dream. And its only 360 HP.

How does that 11.1 do on fuel.

Turbine housings with a smaller A/R (to spool up faster) can't move as much air as larger ones so they have a wastegate to release the unneeded exhaust. They don't limit the amount of boost or power you can make.swaan Thanks this. -
But here is the problem.
Natural detriots you feel as if you can go to fight world war three with.
Today's detriots are so castrated with emissions BS you cannot hardly get them to work. Even if you found a hill long enough to warm them up you will find they are still too cold to properly maintain themselves.
The day of the Detroit probably has passed. Unless someone can be resurrected from retirement and asked to remember what they were before the current emissions BS. Ive run both types of Detroit so I know what I am saying. They are good engines if you can let them breathe.
I personally perfer Cats, but those are getting harder to catch in the wild. -
