It’s just drivers showing Cali how highly thought of that sorry excuse for a state really is...
Nothing to see here please keep the line moving... -
Maybe the current power off at midnight tonight to three million people to avoid wildfires in CA will encourage people to dump outside in the dark. //snarky.
In the real world CA Power companies are killing power to whole counties and millions at night now during the windy dry time where the risk of fires is unacceptable. So third world living in a first world country. Congratulations.sdaniel, Dave_in_AZ and Frank Burns Thank this. -

You would think people will know how to build power lines underground so that there will never be the wind driven risks that they are talking about today. Ever since I heard about this this week, I cannot remember the last time power lines sparked in that kind of wind enough to light off a forest fire or a firestorm. We have thunderstorms pass through all the time and hear zip about power lines causing fires in wind.
Me thinks something is afoot. But what do I know... nothing.
Consider this.
Powers gone. OMFG... run around panic, yell, scream etc.
After three weeks of a power loss through a proper ice storm, big deal.
I wonder if the people in CA are being trained to accept very long periods of time without power at all.Frank Burns Thanks this. -

Maybe I am the nut. I don't know. I guess we will continue to have big fires no matter what they do power or not.Frank Burns Thanks this. -

I was on the Camp fire and several others from CA to Montana. I provide jet fuel to firefighting helicopters on location as part of an FS team. I can tell you guys a couple things from having been around folks who know a heckofalot more than I do about firefighting :
1. Most fires are started by people and continued by mother nature. Lightning is the number one natural cause of wildland fires.
2. Weather conditions is the number on factor in whether or not a fire continues to burn. Rain, terrain, and cold weather are the most likely things that can eliminate a fire. This is why there are no big fires in winter and why even big fires die down at night.
3. Brush/fuel clearing only slightly influences the direction and size of a fire. If you recall, a couple years ago the Eagle Creek fire jumped the Columbia river around Multnoma Falls, Oregon - - a distance of about 1/4 mile. ( the 15 year old who started it was prosecuted and fined 36 million).
4. Fires need fuel to burn. No fuel, no fire. Fuel is not just trees (which are naturally resistant to burning) but also the shrubs and brush between them. That brush is needed to catch the trees on fire. What do you think happens when we have a year or more with few fires and the brush between trees proliferates?
5. Firefighters rarely "put out" fires. They merely try to manage their possible damage.
6. Santa Anna winds start tomorrow--large fires are sure to follow. California, filled with our fellow Americans, is already experiencing a power outtage affecting almost a million ordinary folks. A loving soul would be moved by that fact....regardless of political affiliation.scottied67, D.Tibbitt, Midnightrider909 and 2 others Thank this.
