What does age, sexual orientation or looks have to do with driving performance? I think all companies want performance first and foremost.

I worked at a company where the Safety director told me to my face "if all the drivers were like you, I would be out of a job." And she was not joking, and not happy.

They prefer drivers with a few minor mishaps here and there. It makes these drivers less likely to apply for jobs elsewhere, and makes them more loyal to the company they are at.

Do you remember back when Walmart said it was going to raise its minimum wage to $15 per hour for all hourly employees? It wasn't long after that they also announced these layoffs. It was in the plan all along to lay off some middle management to pay for the raise in the minimum wage. Oh and also that is part of the reason many Walmarts are no longer open 24 hours

Has anyone ever considered the driver wanted adds are a way to build personnel files to have drivers at the ready so that they can enforce discipline at a whim?

Oh No!!! I can’t believe they’re doing such a thing!!! Not Wal Mart !!! They take such good care of Employees. Good Riddance!!! Backlash against Wal Mart is long overdue. I’ll be glad when they’re gone, like KMart, too big, and too greedy, Time to go!!!!

So when exactly is the Earth’s largest retailer going to close it’s doors? Next week? A month from now? Just curious, as I don’t want to miss all the Walmart going out of business sales...

I can tell you the problem with this one. Package handlers out number drivers 6:1. They could own every contract but NONE of them go to meetings, NONE of them make their voices heard so they get the short end of the stick, same with new drivers. @LtlAnonymous what's your top rate progression now, 4 years? It was 18 months for me. Since no new guys show up and make their voices heard they get over looked same as the part timers. Is it perfect...not at all but it can work if people are willing to make it work. You can't just pay dues, never tell anyone what you need and then blame them when they didn't give it to you.

I'm still waiting for a response from you. Are you going to take the retirement from the Teamsters or not? It's a simple question?

Yes, a four-year progression, but something happened this year at my terminal that made it MUCH more palatable. I'm now at $30 per hour and .88 cpm.

Of course I'll never see another mileage run, but...it is what it is. I'm making enough now.

Mind you at the time this was before the holiday season (October 2008 to January 2009) before the economy tanked. We were “represented” by Teamsters Local 15 out of Revere,Massachusetts. The company had hired a bunch of people (myself included) for part time package handling but when the holiday season ended (and the economic downturn occurred)- as the saying goes: “last one hired, first one fired”. Tried contacting the local to see what could be done-got NO RESPONSE back-not even a voicemail or email!
I was lucky as I was already working a full time job elsewhere at Logan Airport but I was kinda hoping to go long-term with UPS (possibly getting into Air Operations). Unfortunately that didn’t happen.
OTOH,if I had gotten on with them, I probably wouldn’t be here talking about it. And right now I’m making more money than I have before at ALL of my previous jobs-both full and part time!
