    Today sucked

    20191010_082412_resized.jpg

for a preload because of course, the customer stayed home, even construction is smarter than trucking.
    really?
    what is the point??????????
took like 2 hours. Was an icy rain beforehand, so everything was solid ice. (it started snowing literally as the loader showed up, dumped like 2 inches in an hour). could barely feel the chains and trying to get one more link was a freaking puzzle, you couldn't hold on to anything.

84" inside diameter, they weigh like 20,000 each.

Delivered those 84" pipes from yesterday and it was nice and frozen getting in for the first trip. Got reloaded and went out there and it was a MUD PIT. doing like 1mph, just putzing along spinng but going forward (slowly) and mud EVERYWHERE. I get back to yard and say "hey, what's the story, cuz next trip they are going to have to pull me in and certainly pull me out (it's probably 1/2 mile in) (I mean i could chain up, but heck if i'm telling them that). what do you want me to do? He calls the guy "yeah, they put a stop to it today too muddy" (well no kidding, that's what happens when snow melts) So preload another one. (yeah, they all look alike, it was cold and/or muddy for the 2nd one)

so they send me to preload these
    20191011_151031_resized.jpg

So now i've preloaded those 84" pipes and these manholes so of course on Monday I"m totally doing something else, and hooking to neither of these trailers. Ugh. I really don't get trucking at all.

The price of being a rockstar some days..

Had 3 straps on that rear stack and it still walked out on me. This thin slab is like glass. Cant strap it tight and cant get enough straps on it. Dunnage blocks, wedges and bungees all over the whole load to get it there intact.

I hate loads like that. The only time I hauled that kind of rocks, they were standing in some wire crates, which were not too bad, but then I hauled them from libby Mt to disney world too. lol

    D.Tibbitt and FerrissWheel Thank this.

Yeah most quarries in more nanny states wouldnt dare this. PA ships tons of thin bluestone in vertical specialty oak crates but then youve got to have a sawmill/crate building side too.

Tennessee is still full of outlaws and shootouts. The law has better things to do most days.

Some of those bridge beams I used to deliver would be on little county roads in the middle of nowhere. They would (most of the time) tell me before hand which side of the (yet to be built) bridge I had to be on. I'd show up with a load that could be anywhere from 80 to a 120 feet long (NON-steerable) and then ride with one of the escorts to find the closest intersection to turn around so I could back to the crane...sometimes for 2 or 3 miles away...
