Car Hauling in Florida

What do you do now? LTL hotshot

 

Yea, I'm set up to do LTL hotshot, but I have a low boy trailer that can also haul 2 cars. The idea was it's not to hard to find 1 partial load going somewhere but sometimes it's hard to find 2 in order to max out the money per mile. I planned to use cars as the 2ndary option to help fill out the trailer but #### had no idea the rates were this bad on them. I was trying to judge prices for cars by looking at uship because there really isn't any open car load boards that you can see before you get set up with your numbers & insurance..

The sad part is the rates were generally better on uship for cars than what I'm seeing on Central.

Example on freight vs cars.. there is a load right now on DAT it picks up 20 miles from me goes 100 miles to Tampa. It's $300 so $3/mile in FL for freight. Meanwhile that same run on Central for a car they want to pay $50-75 off the loadboard.. It's not even worth the risk to your insurance to run that.. I mean who is gonna risk a claim on their insurance for a $50-75 load? Much less wasting your time on it.. Even if you could find 3 near by, you are loading unloading 3 cars for what $150/200 and dealing with 3 different brokers/customers ect..

I just don't get who the hell would run those loads that the brokers feel confident in listing them at those prices...

 

So have you checked out the Brokers handling the military freight? Florida has a lot of bases, also Boeing. Heck Ethan has small jet engines of course you would need air ride for them. I gave you a name who handles hotshot loads for Coyote Logistics. Are you set up with them yet. You may get a load off YouShip I would not waste time or effort. Heck I just seen a guy on YouTube hooking up people to lease on with other carriers and carriers with a dispatch service. I watched quite a few of his videos and will tell you he knows and speaks a lot of truth for being in the business about 4 years

 

Yea I've seen a few of those already but trying to keep semi local my 1st week or so.. just to make sure my truck is doing ok before I venture too far. That's why I'm not liking how cheap these cars are because I was planning to run cars for a bit early on just to stay close while testing out my truck.

 

That is a wise move, good deal.

 

It is all about supply and demand. SOOOOO many drivers have gotten into the car hauling business ( used to be good rates ) here in Florida, and they run for low rates.Some are retired, just looking for a supplemental income.

 

The most popular routes are FL–LA, FL–NY, NJ
Less popular is FL–TX, the lowest rates are in Miami FL
Local loads at load boards are not gonna be with high rates.
I worked as a company dispatcher with several drivers
from FL and I know that.
It’s possible to get good rates for local loads in FL
but it comes with experience.
And nobody can guarantee that your investment in your
business will be successful cuz it all depends on decisions
you make.
But in my experience it’s possible to make FL based
successful car hauling company.
You just have to use the right strategy and scheme of work.
