Nestle US Unit to Cut 4,000 Jobs by Stopping Direct-to-Store Delivery

They are shutting down its direct-to-store delivery network for products such as DiGiorno and Skinny Cow and relying on warehouses It is going to put about 8.3% of their employees in the states out of work. The elimination of 4,000 workers , and an operation that now includes 230 facilities, 1,400 trucks and 2,000 different routes

Steven's Transport tanker div also closed down all their trucks putting a lot out of work.

I think there is an over supply of trucks and not enough loads to go around. Rates are too low in so many venues now also and it doesn't reflect a shortage of trucks to me.

I think the United States will never be like the post 2nd war years ever again. Or even the pre 2nd war days. But who knows.

exactly, so now, this means that no more drivers are needed, and maybe the CDL mills will lay off instructors as well? when you have cut-rate companies willing to haul for peanuts, no one touches what's out there. unless a company or o/o just needs to get to another area.

There's definitely a hit to the prestige factor on what you say.

We have two customers that are pretty much all ours now because of too many Swift trucks in the bushes, late, etc.

    I'm certain that extends out.

    Plus you can't teach hustle.

The megas are creating a culture of laziness and entitlement, and it's gonna bite them right in the ###.

Ask a mega driver what kind of power plant is in his truck.

The driver shortage is so severe, at 1530 in the afternoon at the TA &Petro in Ontario, CA where you can probably park 700? 800? trucks, the restaurant in the TA is full, the food court seating full, and there's already a 90 minute wait for a shower.

I'll say the lot is 95% full. And will be 100% before 1800.

    OR

Perhaps there's a shortage of unfed and unwashed drivers. That would seem to fit they're type of driver.

    "who has a fridge"

    "who has an inverter"

    "who has a pet policy"

    "who has a rider policy"

"who does not have governed trucks"

"who has drop and hook only"

"who gets me home 5 times a week, and 6 times on a sunday"

    and so on.....

LOL. I was talking to a driver who is in his late 40’s, and he said he likes Freightliners best because they have better running engines. Bwaahahaha..
