So I’m a southern boy that doesn’t get up here that often, so just looking for some help. NE, and especially the NYC area is out of my comfort zone, but I just know there are a lot of parkways that I can’t take so I’m looking for the simplest way in. All I know is my dispatcher told me to cross the Verrazano bridge. So my plan is to take I-78 then catch I-95 south to i278, cross the bridge, and take i278 up to i495. Was just trying to take the simplest route, but nothing about this map says simple. Just need somebody to verify that’s my best plan.
Also, my appointment is for 12:30, but I’m about to hit the sack and take off at 0330 so I hit the bridge about 0530-6. Just in the hopes of not eating up my 70 in traffic so I can make it back to south Texas. Is that early enough?

It looks to me like you would be going over at the GW Bridge off 95 to 295 then 495
I just drug out the Truck Route paper map for NYC, got the map correlated with what you have said, so it does go that way without going over the GW Bridge ( I imagine it is a lot more expensive crossing).
Also looked at the road ATLAS. Google maps if you have a computer would give you a better look to see what it looks like and what exit numbers, just don't know where you are going for real in the city. Just watch those city streets too.
Also do you have the last of the route directions, like what exit, etc.

Basically, the main mission is to take the Verrazano, but it feels like a goofy route to do it the way I laid it out.4mer trucker and NavigatorWife Thank this. -

I like the GWB idea way better. SImpler. You will be using the upper deck, lower is banned since 9-11 bothways.
The last time I used Verrazano 30 plus years ago it had no tolls due to crime. I shot the barrier at 80+ with inches to spare on both sides late at night. If there was any thug hiding in the man refuge spot waiting on me with bad intentions, Its safe to say he would be a very dead thug. I have no idea currently about Verrazano. But the GWB is way nicer. Once you cough up the 110 dollars toll. Stay in the middle lane at all possible.
Try to behave like a gentle giant. Cars are going to get into everything and under your wheels if at all possible up there.
Good luck! -
Hope your not afraid of heights.......
jammer910Z and 4mer trucker Thank this. -
Well the GWB toll going west is like $90.00 IIRC.
The verazanno is free going in, but $80.00 going out.
I might be a little off on the $$, but that's close.
Ruthless will know for sure.NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
78/287south/ 440 east/278 to 495
Or 78 to 95 south to 278 to 495
95 tolls get higher going north.
GW to any of the bridges to the island adds $40 toll plus whatever extra off the njtp (from 78 prolly $20).
Verrazano or Goethals (278 into Staten Island from Jersey) or outerbridge (440) or GW are all $105 last I checked via tolls by mail if you don’t have ezpass.
If they’re routing you, it’s likely to be the cheapest as far as tolls vs fuel. You’ll hit traffic somewhere. It happens. Stay on highways, you’ll clear all the overpasses. Stay off parkways, you won’t clear the overpasses.
Take a bathroom break before you get out of jersey. Ain’t many shoulders or spots to pull over on after that.FoolsErrand, wis bang, Flat Earth Trucker and 9 others Thank this.
