Truck hauling hay flipped over and caught fire. Riverside County FD has had a hell of a time putting it out !

Reminds me of the old Mason Dixon Barn fires. The whole county would show up as spectators because those things light up the sky in those days like nobody's business.

That’s what I said, they needed to call in a water bomber for this fire! Every fire truck Riverside County had was responding to the fire,at a couple of them had to go back and get more water! I-10 westbound was shutdown for at least 3 1/2 hours! With all of trucks sitting on the highway some of the drivers probably could’ve used their urine bottles and snuffed the fire out!! Some of the traffic detoured down Box Canyon Road thru Mecca and took CA-86 & 111. They finally got a front end loader down there to dump dirt on some of the hay that was still smoldering!

Yup, Took me an hour to get through there at 5 o’clock. It started backing up about the 90 mile marker and the crash was at the 78.

When I finally reach the crash site, Caltrans was picking up their signs and going home.

There wasn’t that much wind actually. It just a case of the truck practically burning to a crisp and a ishload of hay it was hauling. We’re still wondering if the driver actually made it because from my understanding the truck was actually eastbound and then it crossed the median, hit part of a bridge railing and flipped!

Most of us were also saying all this dirt around here (we were in the middle of the desert technically)and they couldn’t use that to snuff out the fire.

Pray for this driver that he pulls through. He’s got a long road ahead to recovery.
