Samsara ELD devices are being installed on our trucks. Camera with artificial Intel mounts on window. It reads speed limit signs and makes a distinction between a complete stop and rolling stops. 6 miles over the posted speed limit and it starts adding time to your score card which will result in a higher CSA score for the company and the driver. We are now being discouraged from ANY time over all DOT clocks.
I'm ok with the speed as I've always obeyed speed laws anyway. I hope it makes a big impact on all the speeding truckers out there. But grabbing 1 more hotel(car hauler) just to avoid a few minutes over the DOT clock sucks big time. Completely impractical when only going home.
Only good change is it can be downloaded to any electronic device and loads way faster than Omnitracs. My question is, what about the other part of the problem? 4 wheelers. Shouldn't they be micro managed as well?
I never thought that I'd say it. I miss my log book!
Be interesting to see how the industry starts losing its drivers who won't put up with it.

The industry wont lose drivers. What you have to understand is that trucking is all many people know. What else are they gonna do if it ain't trucking?
peterd, NavigatorWife, KB3MMX and 1 other person Thank this. -
That idiot 4 wheeler has the constitutional right to act like #######. You, being a federally regulated commercial truck driver do not have those same rights.
peterd, NavigatorWife, buddyd157 and 4 others Thank this. -

Drive a truck it will be fun, the open road and the freedom from someone looking over you shoulder every day. The job sure has changed. Reading the speed limit signs and sounds little to much. All we need now is the computer to steer the truck.
201, KB3MMX, Intothesunset and 1 other person Thank this. -
KB3MMX and Intothesunset Thank this.

I miss mine, too.
I'm still 2,000 miles from home and I've already figured out I'm an hour short on my 70 of being able to make it.KB3MMX and Intothesunset Thank this. -
I like to whine, A LOT. I might do that, if I'm NOT trucking.
I'll whine about NOT trucking.Flat Earth Trucker and bryan21384 Thank this. -
If sign says 70 mph AND 45 min... It thinks the speed limit is 45. If it sees a white area with numbers in it (like the white around the state highway numbers in IA or IL) then it thinks that is the speed limit. Going past the scales without exiting the interstate, it thinks the speed limit is whatever is posted for traffic through the scales. I dont even pay any attention to it anymore... I already told safety that I'm not doing 55 through Chicago Land, I'm staying with the flow... Which is usually 60 to 65. Oh and it generally cant see the speed limit signs at night... Lol just another reason I can add to the list of why I prefer night driving.O.Henry, NavigatorWife, Intothesunset and 2 others Thank this.
