New trucks are only ok if you trade them in before warrenty is up. And even then there a pain in the ### going in all time for warranty because it doesn't cover your down time, your still not making money when the trucks in the shop.

I'd love to see a comparison on a new truck and a new glider going 1.2 million and the cost of ownership with both at the end of 10-15 years. Not to mention fuel costs.

I'm one these guys that keep there trucks long long time. And I like to do all my own wrenching also. For me a new truck with pre emmision engine that's easy and cheap to fix with no issues is going to win every time.

If your one these steering wheel holders that cant change a light bulb but good with a cell phone then keep ordering that new truck every 4 years .

To each their own. I’ve rebuilt 2 old trucks and at the end of the day they’re still old trucks. I prefer to not drive one anymore. I’m currently at 365k on my truck now that I’ve somehow managed to drive 65k past warranty and it hasn’t disintegrated yet. It’s had the injectors replaced as part of a recall, a nox sensor replaced, and a valve adjustment. I plan on running it until the end of 2020 but they won’t build me what I want then I’ll consider rebuilding and keeping this one a while longer.

Rebuilt engines won't last? News to me. If you cheap out and half ### the rebuild of course it won't last lol.

    Exaclly.

There was a guy on here I think is name was Cowpie. He had a factory reman Detroit in his glider. Last time I seen him post it was at 1.2 million and hasn't touched his engine other then normal maintenance and dosen't use drop oil.

Rebuilt engines are only as good as the people putting them together. If done correctly every bit as good as a new engine.

Exactly. You have to know what you have going in. My old boss was buying every 6nz he could get his hands on. They got a Platinum rebuild before being dropped into a glider. His first couple have over 800k on them and haven’t been touched.

I just picked an old CAT block up from the machine shop yesterday. Spent more money on block prep than most guys spend on their inframe kits. Do it once, do it right IMO.

Lets just say it probably won't be due for its first oil change until about 2027 lol.

My old boss? Zero. All 10 gliders have been built with an overhauled 6nz. All the engine work was done at Peterbilt in Missoula because they had a really good Cat guy that has since retired.

Is that the one from your rescued thread? (Or am I getting people mixed up again?)
