Part of the job I suppose specially now days. And I'd never pay cash for a truck without 100k in the bank. Easier to borrow a truck from the bank and make a monthly payment and keep my money in the bank for operating capital.

You can write a check for 10-20 on a truck at any time, it happens been there done that. People think owner operators make huge money, it's not all its cracked up to be.

I run to ohio every week pays roughly 175 gross a year, when it's all said and done after expenses the COMPANY will net around 38k, that's after repairs given no huge break downs, and my wage of 35k.

FWIW no exp, own authority, insurance your down payment depending on your age, record, etc is probably going to be somewhere around $5000 and your premium is probably going to he somewhere between 15k-20k/year. Progressive is about the only company I'm aware of that will touch you.

If you need financing you're going to almost have to go through a bank and even that may he tough I'm not aware of a truck institution that will touch a new driver with no trucking experience. Something to consider

Well if a guty runs his own numbers and even running under someone elses, you have a truck and trailer payment one way or the other. You can pay cash, but you either have to make the money to replace it or to pay your self back.
A lot of folks think they can run cheap because their truck is payed for, I never looked at it like that.

Some people don't get that though. Talking with one of the ladies in the office friday we discussed that. Truck might make 10k a week but I'm still only taking my weekly salary and at the end of the year if it's a good year I might get a small bonus but the primary concern is keeping that business account growing every month.

I watched a video on youtube about a guy that leased Ryder trucks. Said if he got a check for 3200 he went out and blew 3200...now granted that's a full maintenance lease but I wonder how much the irs decided to seize when it was all said and done

So you were running for a dollar a mile and weren’t successful? Gee I wonder why?

Go work for a mega and you will make more then 35k on 150k miles.

Where do you get I was running a dollar a mile? Oh wait I see you seem to think I ran 150k a year like an otr driver but missed the part about local and home every night. 150k on about 80k miles a year. But ya know great to just assume.

The first line of you post made me think that.
“Fuel bill alone on a 150k year was about 50,000”

Still wouldn’t drive someone else’s truck for 35k a year let alone my own. You can make that running a forklift around here.

From watching the You Tube truckers over the years, their first indication they should pay taxes is when the IRS letter ask them to mail in their income tax owed for the last 3 years.
