He's fretting over things out of his control. With no idea that engines today aren't the same as they were during the depression. 90 years ago.
BTW. FL has 2 governors. 1800 rpm and 2200 rpm.
There's a trick to making that happen. But since you knocked it down to 1700. You're out of luck.
Anyone have firsthand experience going from 22.5's to tall rubber tires?

Changing from 22.5 to 24.5 is approximately one gear step up.
If you have 3:70's on 22.5 rubber and switched to 24.5 it would be like 3:55's on 22.5 rubber.
3:55's would become 3:36's
3:90's would become 3:70's
3:36's would become 3:25's
Your average modern engine makes horsepower up to about 1600 or 1700 rpm where the hp curve goes flat or starts loosing hp, time to shift if you have another gear.
That doesn't mean if you run the engine at 1600 to 2000 rpm it's going to blow up, it only means that if the truck is loaded light that you'r wasting fuel to get the extra speed.
Back in the day it was known that on a mechanical Cummins the valves would float around 2600 rpm so at 2500 you were still okay.
Here's a 1693TA Cat that goes 2500 rpm, no sweat.

You gotta pin it to win itTug Toy, IH Truck Guy, Farmerbob1 and 1 other person Thank this. -
That would be pushing it a little much, Though I knew some guys that used to run the old detroits that hard. I also know where a b model cat is that you have to pay attention or it will be up around 25 without you even realizing it.

Also, I just realized something.
My truck has 560k miles, and burns no oil at all, AND I keep my RPMs under 1700.
Perhaps these facts are related somehow?Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
Must have a really big turbo and a huge air to air cooler on it..Farmerbob1 Thanks this. -
Idk mines got ~450k on the last rebuild, 2.56m overall. Don’t burn oil less I put it in the go tank.
I don’t go galavantin around like that. Just touch it ever now n then to let someone know that just because I’m big don’t mean I’m a slouch.Farmerbob1 Thanks this.
