Anyone have firsthand experience going from 22.5's to tall rubber tires?

More motor less boost= lower egt. Can’t run the psi up so high the head starts lifting off!

That is certainly possible: I’m not gonna recommend it to anyone- doesn’t hurt the motor to go over 1700, doesn’t do anything for fuel mileage surely. Oughtn’t kill it to go over ever now n again.

Oh, sure. When I am riding the Jakes down a grade I let it get to 1800 RPM or even 1900 RPM, but other than that, no more than 1700. I actually had the engine software adjusted to limit the pedal RPM to 1700.

Yeah, well, you gotta drive it, so may as well be like you want.
Why you don’t just not run her up past 1700 with your foot?

I noticed myself running past 1800 a couple times while climbing hills. Not often, but after it happened a few times, I decided to have the RPM limiter put in the software.

Several years ago I had a driver that wanted 30 days off, so I put my truck in the shop for an inframe and drove his. I had to unload in El Paso on a friday then reload in Midland for Alaska. the midland load was an appointment and the last one of the day, plus they were fairly strict on their appointments.
I had this truck limited at 68 on cruise and 72 on the pedal, and had forgot all about that. They took way longer than it should have to get empty, so I called midland, and told them I would be there, but running close, just don't go home early, and put it in the wind. Wound that puppy up to 72 and it was like hitting a wall.
I called them back and told them I may be just a hair late. lol

I wouldn’t do it, for 1 reason only. 22.5 lo pros are readily available everywhere. All others are getting harder to find.

I can see truckstops not carrying anything but the most popular, but any decent tire shop is still going to have tires, and who wants to pay truck stop prices for tires anyway?

I have been thinking about it, and based on what I have heard about availability of other tire sizes, have decided to stay with 22.5 lo pros unless I own a trailer with a tire rack for spares.

The main reason I was wanting a larger tire was to reduce engine RPM when I could set cruise to 72 and no limit on the pedal, but a couple miles per hour won't bring the RPMs of the truck to a level where it will fail at a highly accelerated rate.

33BEBD77-4641-4F0E-A699-17824EFF1A33.png I just looked up the torque curve for dd15. It’s very impressive. Looks like that engine can run 1800 rpm all day long.Supposedly it’s at 90% of torque @ 1100 rpm. The torque curve chart shows it starts falling, after 1600 rpm. Yet it says torque range 1550-1850. I need more research, I guess. But with the long torque band, and the 10 speed, 1650-1700 might just be the best overall for drivability, especially in the hills.I wonder how much mpgs you’d gain, running 3 mph slower, if any. Looks like 1650, right at the top of max torque, is the best place to be. Now I’m wondering what your hp rating is at, and wether there’s different parameters, to maximize torque at your desired speed.

Long FLD and Farmerbob1 Thank this.
