Holy crap, people are whining about orientation pay!! If what ever pittance a company throws your way for orientation is going to make or break you, your finances are in a sad state of affairs.

As a new driver you should pay attention how they treat you in orientation is just the beginning. If you agree to it , which you do by showing up then you really don't have any right to complain, Learn to say no before you get into situations that don't suit you. If your going to a mega training mill and your taking the easy way out your in for quire a ride.
Read the sections here regarding that peticular company before you go,Is a start at least you should have an idea of what to expect.ZVar Thanks this. -
I guess my point is once you've gone through the orientation and you've started your career, whatever amount you get for orientation, large or small is pretty insignificant in the larger scheme of things. I remember getting the $150 from Knight for completing orientation, I think my wife and I blew it on dinner and a decent bottle of wine. I don't think it quite covered the bill once you added in the tax and tip.

Do you know how many employees actually stay on with them during training?
Has anyone stopped to wonder how this company is debt free? It's the CEO's favorite line to tell all his new potential hires. Sure he might be good at budgeting stuff but what really helps is us truck drivers that sign up to work for such a low CPM.Last edited: Oct 15, 2019

Oh BTW, and this will really frost some of you, the $150, at least when I was there, was the total you were paid for orientation, no matter how long it took. Do to a problem getting a report back from the doctors office, I was there for 4 1/2 days. I was also paying for my motel room @ $60 a day. I wasn't happy about the whole deal, but I got over it.

This company is cheating people and I’m doing my best to give them fair warning ahead of time; something that Knight tries to keep under wraps until you’ve actually made the effort to physically be in orientation.... and by then it’s too late. Accept or leave. And, like it or not, most truck drivers that are attempting to hire on with Knight are not exactly the epitome of financial success. Who among them could afford to leave once they arrive at orientation?
A captive audience to be sure.
Also; you’re statement about ‘make or break’ stands applies to anyone that would work for this company in the first place; anyone that would sign on in any way with Knight ( and anyone that would continue to work for them) automatically places their finances into a sad state of affairs.Last edited: Oct 21, 2019

People think that drivers switch companies just because of money. That is untrue. They switch for any number of reasons, some of them pretty silly.
Knight may have a "captive" audience of destitude drivers, but not everyone who attends is poor or cannot afford to get home. The large majority of people in my class drove their own cars there.(Phoenix) and were certainty prepared to drive themselves home if need be. For some it would of been a short drive since they lived in the Phoenix metro area.
Running down the company, abusing the equipment, and poor time management, are sure ways to financial ruin, no matter what company you're at. -
Cheating’, in this particular case, entails an intentional lack of information from up front. Upon the initial interview, orientation instructions and, last I checked, lack of mention on Knight’s hiring website, there is absolutely no mention of orientation pay amount.
This information is withheld by intent by Knight with the sole intent of relying upon potential new hires’ reluctance to ask questions for fear that they might then not be hired in the first place. Certainly, if the new hire were to ask up front, the information would be provided. But, due to the desperation and the ignorance of the majority of all Knight new hires, most potential candidates simply accept whatever they are offered, without question. And Knight intentionally uses this total capitulation to it’s full advantage.
Think otherwise? Then just take a look at all those extremely low paychecks that Knight drivers are consistantly taking home... all of them, week after pitiful week. Any real driver that would claim otherwise is both ignorant as well as desperate. Or just in plain denial.
Also; drivers do switch companies just because of money. Keep in contact with all the new drivers in your most recent orientation class; within just one year (and probably much less time) they’re all going to be gone, probably even yourself.
And all, only because of the money
