    Hey Guys,
I'm new to the forum and I'm hoping someone here can help me. I am looking to buy a 2007 Dodge ram 3500 6.7 Cummings and I would like to do some hotshot hauling. 40' Gooseneck... But I see this is the first year of this engine. It's a great deal and money is an issue.

Is this a good truck for the job?

What's the towing capacity of the truck and trailer?

Is it a dually? Those can haul more then a single.

    According to http://www.rambodybuilder.com/2007/docs/dr/mlup.pdf

23k GCVWR for the single and the dually at top spec. It has the 68rfe transmissions which I personally wouldn't trust for hard work. Heard horror stories about them.

It is a dually. I'm sure towing wise it's fine as I've done a lot of research on the Cummins and Dodge Ram 3500. But I did not look up the 07 specifically. In other words the specs are good but I'm wondering if this first model was as good as the rest. Below is pretty consistent with what I've been seeing.

" With a gooseneck hitch, the Ram 3500 can tow up to 31,210 pounds, and with the conventional hitch, it can tow 20,000 pounds."

24khotshot is right about the 68rfe, drivers overloading that trans pays my bills. Get the AISIN, 2013 was the first year they were available on the Ram

The best thing to do is call the dealer with the VIN. They'll tell you what it can haul. They'll even email you the entire spec sheet with all the options it came with.

I was looking at the current trucks. And what I"m finding out is.

Dually's can pull much more then single. Which you have.
The rear end makes a difference. Smaller gear which means higher number can pull more.
The new 8 speeds can pull more then the old 6 speeds.

You're probably right with what it can haul.
Me personally, would want to know the entire 411 from the dealer.

I've seen lots of times where internet research has been wrong. The older the vehicle. The more conflicting info that's out there.

My son bought a used 15 ram1500. V6 3.0 diesel. He was told it could haul 14k off the bumper.
    Dealer said 7,400.
The truck ended up being nothing what he thought it was. LOL

Aisin has been in the cab & chassis trucks since 07. 2013 was the 1st year it was an option in the 3500 pickups.

Your pulling tow ratings from trucks 10 years newer than you are looking at.

The only way you could get me in an '07 cummins would be the early '07 with a 5.9 or a deleted '07.5 with the 6.7. Those things had a bunch of software updates & nothing seemed to stop the egr, & dpf from soot packing..

The 68rfe would be fine if you were willing to dump ~$5k into it. I like suncoast built transmissions, but that's me. Double deep pan, billit drum, triple disc converter, sprag, & trans tuning..

Or get the g56. Dump the garbage atf+4 factory fill & run Mobil STF50. South bend HD organic single disk worked perfectly for me. That's still my trans of choice. New oil, & a clutch is cheap. Just don't run it hard below 1700rpm & she'll live a long happy life..

5500 with the Aisin would be a better idea. A 3500 with the 68RFE will pull a hotshot trailer but not as happily as the bigger truck.
