    DON’T LET THEM OVER HOOOOOOOOOONK!!!!!! Trucking meets 5 year old “Heyyyyyy he cut line” Merging is to blend in. Dropping a lane it’s basically set up to work like a zipper.     Yeah that's the way it's supposed to work.
    But then people see the sign and get over 2 miles back and someone runs to the front.
    Or.. when they get close, they start merging, early, causing the open lane to stall while the closed lane progresses at a 4 to 1 pace.

    There's no easy answer for getting everyone the "use both lanes and take a turn" program.

    Right but it still works the exact same way, 2 miles Or 20 yards before dropping a lane.

    If you can maintain a reasonable speed and not hold up the lane going through there's no reason not to merge sooner than where the lane ends.

    People are going to do what they do and no wishful thinking is going to change any of that.

    I just sit back and enjoy the ride and don't let any of that 'traffic edicate' (or lack thereof) bother me.
