    Nice pictures you posted.
I've hauled lots of the machinery too. Just a reminder, I'm sure you know with your experience, the DOT loves the open deck trailers bc they can spot load securement Violations right away

That's ELD's that must be mounted. The op is asking about an electronic log. There are no rules for those, they are simply treated like a paper log

Here is the full text of the guidance.

Question 28: May a driver use a computer, tablet, or smartphone (that is not an Automatic On-Board Recording Device) to create, electronically sign, and store the record of duty status (RODS)?

    Guidance:

Yes. A driver may make manual duty-status entries to a computer, tablet, or smartphone program that is used to generate the graph grid and entries for the record of duty status (RODS) or log book, provided the electronically-generated display (if any) and output includes the minimum information required by §395.8 and is formatted in accordance with that section. The driver must sign the RODS (manually or electronically) at the end of each 24-hour period to certify that all required entries are true and correct.

    1. If electronic signatures are not used:
    • The driver must print and manually sign the RODS daily.
    • The driver must have in his or her possession the printed and signed RODS for the prior seven consecutive days (if required on those days).
    • The driver should be given an opportunity to print and manually sign the current day’s RODS at the time of the inspection.
    1. If RODS have been electronically signed:
    • At the time of an inspection of records by an enforcement official, the driver may display the current and prior seven days RODS to the official on the device’s screen.
    • If the enforcement official requests printed copies of the RODS, the driver must be given an opportunity to print the current and prior seven days RODS (if required on those days) at the time of inspection.

Might want to keep that section handy.

Arizona gave me a warning for AOBRD requirement not met.

    That was before the mandate.

I used trucklogger on my laptop.

Thanks for this detailed information and question. Yes, this refers to an "electronic' paper log non-ELD required. My particular response was to the person showing the Officer his cell phone for AOBRD logs. on that note, just so everybody is aware. The device has to be mounted for AOBRD/ELD users. Current CSA Points giving in some states that I am aware of is 1 CSA point for not having your device mounted. After hard enforcement starts in December, no telling if that will change? However, your device must be mounted, but that doesn't mean that it can't be removed easily. ex; like some of the cell phone cup holders or GPS grippers, as long as the device is mounted and not just laying somewhere so it can fly around the truck ;)

CORRECTION: After rereading his post I'm guessing he meant he was using the App for a 'paper' version. non-AOBRD/ELD but all AOBRD/ELD's are required to be mounted

Just a heads up, no printer will get you an out of service in New York. I defend at least one of those citations each month. Mostly come from the Orange and Dutchess county area od NY, along I-84 they enforce this heavy.

Nevada used to like printouts also.

They've asked for mine anyways. So they can sit in their vehicles. They don't have buildings with a desk.

That may have changed lately though
