It was a roller coaster ride over the last few weeks for sure. Lost my grandmother unexpectedly right before my daughters wedding up in New York and had our escrow close during the same time. Total kluster but everything worked out & the new house is awesome & walking my daughter down the aisle was a highlight reel moment for sure. Grandma was 93 & solid in her faith so I know she’s with the Lord smiling down.

Sorry to hear about your loss my friend, but I'm glad to see she was able to lead a full life to a ripe old age. I can only imagine the roller coaster of emotions of going through everything you've been through recently, although it seems like you've got the concept of taking the bad with the good and looking at the upside of everything down pat.

So I just got off the phone with the terminal. Both trainers are with trainees, so now it's a waiting game for one to open up. I think one is going in with some experience, so hopefully they won't be required to do the full 30 days. I'm going down there Friday to meet and greet with the new TM.

Interesting, I suppose that's a difference between the megas and the smaller to mid-size companies. You'll get more individual attention but you may have to wait a bit for shared resources. Hopefully you won't be waiting to long.

Did they give you an idea when they might send you off for the week of training in Greer, SC?

From what I've gathered, you go sometime during your 30 days. I think they want you to have a decent grasp of handling the truck before they send to you orientation to concentrate on how to handle a loaded liquid tanker.

The training in Greer is all classroom work. You won't drive at all. They do have a training trailer to learn pump offs. By your second week they will have you pulling a loaded trailer.

The only time you drive in Greer is during the Smith System training, it’s an easy day and a great lunch after. Keep on ‘em bro, they have local drivers you can run with, you’ll learn a lot running 2 loads a day for a week or so. I’m unloading in Pittsburgh right now, my 3rd load. The 2nd load fell through because I was short two fittings needed to pump off. I ended up taking the loaded trailer to Keasbey, NJ and sleeping there. NJ sucks! The whole NE sucks for trucking in my opinion. Nowhere to stop, twisted maze of freeways and interstates, toll roads everywhere, no truck stops. I got through it though, good learning experience. I ended up sleeping in a Walmart parking lot in Woodbridge I think. The hardest part of this job for me so far is finding a place to overnight. The truck stops are overflowing, rest areas just as bad. It’s a sinking feeling when you see trucks piled up on every exit because there’s nowhere to park. I got lucky the other night, pulled in to a run down truck stop in Milton, PA with 3 minutes on my 11 hour clock and 9 on my 14 hour clock. Luckily, it’s a big place with a huge overflow lot. I posted up there, showered, did laundry, had a meal, all good. I’m ready for some loads out west where I’m familiar with the territory. Almost unloaded now, will update again on the next leg of this journey.

    Thanks for the update!

Have you considered, or do you have the opportunity to invert your driving schedule and drive at night? I understand finding parking in the day time is tons easier b/c that's when the lots are emptying out for the most part. Also night driving is easier b/c of less traffic. Of course it all depends on your pickup and delivery schedule so maybe it's not an option?

Driving the northeast is a nightmare especially on the PA turnpike I travel that road so much I have certain areas I stop at depending on what time of the day it is I avoid the truck stops coz of the cluster especially the FlyingJ in Carlisle

I got hit in there while I was in the sleeper on a 10. Woke up to my cab shaking.

Someone doing a nose in didn't go wide enough and tore up my right front end.
