    I'm in Dallas

I was looking to work for sysco/us foods for the pay and the home time

Only thing I'm seeing is it is very physically demanding but I feel that can be subjective. I also feel that it can be a good thing
So for ppl that have worked for both. Is it that hard? What is the average day like. Is it laid back?(As long as you do your job you get left alone)
And lastly, is this the best route to go down if you want to be local and net over $1000 a week

Those dudes work their ##### off. Subjective to a point because a lot of the guys are used to just staring at a windshield but it's a lot of work. Go to the ltl rants thread and ask those guys how much weight they are two wheeling off the truck everyday, it might give you an idea of what to expect. If you go with case pay laid back is not an option really because you bang the work out quicker, go home earlier and still make your money. As far as the money you want to make we make more than that here in Florida doing beverage also which is also a physical job but not on the level of food service in my opinion, those guys are the hardest working dudes in a truck.

Mama Mia, food service is the worst, oops, I mean, most demanding. Very little dock delivery, most all ramp and 2 wheeler. Down steps, back alley's, up steps,,,many times. Crabby people, 200 tiny boxes, 20 (?) stops a day. It's not for wimps, and you'll never see an overweight food service driver. There's better paying, easier trucking jobs, trust me.

You'll lose the gut for sure. Try it for a few months and you'll see a big difference in muscle tone and you'll be physically fit. You can always go back to no touch freight if you tire of food service.
You can also try Dot Transportation in Saginaw which is food delivery. Most terminals have a variety of driver unload/driver no-touch/flex work schedule of 4 on & 4 off/local/ OTR. Description is on the website.

It would be nice to be able to switch it up within a company like that. I do it and it's great, run delivery for while and sweat, run linehaul for a while and get miles, and currently I'm the yard dog which is the most laid back thing I've ever done lol. I sit and play on my phone until the radio me to move a trailer lol.

Um,,no. I suggest a healthier lifestyle than food service. ( I know, try it sometime) I've seen food service drivers that just take the loaded trailer(s) for some poor guy to empty out, drop and hook, and bring back empties, but that defeats what you're looking for. Flatbed you'll get a workout, but there's the eventual tooth loss from that job, IDK, I wouldn't recommend food service to anyone. It's usually a beginners job, they start as a helper, move into driving, which is really 2 jobs, and many move on to real trucking after a while.

It’s very hard work, some can do it forever. Others can’t, In my case, Degenerative disc disease, 3 herniated discs, in early 30 s. The last 20+ yrs spent trying to avoid further damage. Limited lifestyle. I wish I would have never pushed my body that far, from an early age. But I enjoyed the workout at the time. Even did extra after work. There’s good healthy exercise, and there’s hard heavy lifting, and Driving on top of it, that destroys your body. It’s not worth it IMO.
