I have just parallel parked along the highway right in the business district of Moab and ask if it was ok, both the law and the store owners I was parked in front of said it was fine.
It is a neat place to just walk around and see everything.
The hole in the rock or wall or what ever it is just south of Moab is well worth going through too, and I have even slept there a couple of times.

I just took whatever route I felt like it. Most times it was up through OK in to Lamar.
ALBQ was always the 550 though. Over cortez so as not to deal with the scale. They like to stop trucks. Durango to Delores. The back road.
Very rarely did I take the shiprock route. That adds some minutes and stop lights.
Never WY.Snailexpress, x1Heavy and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
I usually ran the 287. Have been for I don't know how many years. You could usually depend on parking near Dumas or Kit Carson. However A'bque becomes a real strong option if Salt Lake etc is a destination.
Its texas that is the problem below say Carls Corner all the way to Corpus Christi.D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -

The only time I’d run 287 instead of I-25 to I-80 was if 25 was shut down because of wind. Staying on 25 you can run the port and they won’t even notice because they’re too busy with the other trucks in there.

That is until they built the new one north of sheridan that was a combo mt and wy. It is not new now, but was when I quit running down there. A lot of the new guys probably never even heard of the sheridan main street port. lolHammer166, x1Heavy, Snailexpress and 1 other person Thank this. -
I always ran 287. Never 25 or 80.
Specially this time of year. 80 has already been closed a few times and the season hasn't even started yet.
Worked my way diagonally instead of up and over. -
