@kylefitzy, I don't think your grasping how it was tied down. I circled where the chain ends would be if this load were chained the same way. The chain passed straight through clevises placed on the equipment tiedowns.
The only force applied was from a chain pulled tight, parallel to the rub rail, pinching the clevis between the chain and deck. It didn't even load the clevis.

edit: a maserati is an expensive car to $#!@ up like that too.... only a scumbag from some shady screw york dealer would give an expensive car to a hotshot like that.... hope insurance has their way with them. -
Just said a prayer i hope this primer doesnt need to cash in. Fabricated beams, no edge protection or chain.
And this time it was me. Under the truck today doing a greasejob and i look over..
What the dang i am missin a drum!? Sure enough, gone. No idea when it left. I am wrenching on this truck constantly.. Atleast 2x a week. Cant believe i didnt feel or hear it, or cut a bag.

What i cant believe is that it smacked the trail arm under the bag seat, and another piece looks to have hit the brake chamber... But i never heard it. Youd expect a boom or shudder but none stand out. I have brand new drives and they throw a lotta gravels. I just am stunned it was so quiet.
Ive been in the truck about 50k miles. In that time Its had AC compressor, air compressor, belts, fanhub, exhaust, downpipe, turbo compressor o rings, virgin steers & drives, a wheelhub, stemco oil caps, tie rod, all axle alignment, headlights x4, wipers x3, city horn and wire pigtail, armrest, door lstch striker, steering pump, steering shaft U joints, shifter bushing, tank drains, brake protection valve, ignition switch, few light switches, few relays, few marker lights, several wiring fixes, coolant hoses and flushes, 3 or 4 oil changes, air cleaners and id bet 5 fuel filter. Plus reflashed ecm. Brakes were still within wear limit but it was scheduled for our next slowdown.. Just been a lotta broke trucks lately. Anyhow this thing is maintained pretty dang good so it can happen to anyone. A truck will nickel n dime you to death and then some.PoleCrusher, D.Tibbitt, Al. Roper and 4 others Thank this. -
Lotta somber looking oversize pilots standing around this mess on NC-40. I dont think the lead pole was up high enough for the load by looking at this pic zoomed in. And the new pavement didnt help them either. Driver musta been goin pretty slow to get pulled over that quick.. To bad they didnt notice and go over it via the cloverleaf.

Yeah.. And it looked to be some sort of fiberglass can or something.. There was fiberous shavings all over.. Note the pile on the generator. Id imagine theres a chancd that despite being just a scrape, that its junk now and probably needs to be permitted back to its origin. Im sure heads are being scratched as we speak. Atleast no one injured.
