All of the bankrupt 0-2 year Owner Operators also started and also took the risk and also wanted to succeed. Watching TV and movies give the false impression that all anyone needs for success is a desire and an attitude, because the people making TV and movies need a simple story that can be finished inside of 30 minutes ot 90 minutes.

Many people outside of trucking think it's a simple business full of simple people therefore anyone will succeed at it. "They don't know what they don't know."

They think that you and I are stupid and so they will automatically be able to make better income than us. All they have to do is buy a truck and get on a load board and big bucks will roll in.

In their mind, they see themselves driving on a perfect day, on a perfect road, with the perfect load, in the perfect truck and perfect traffic conditions. Everything goes perfectly. You and I are old veterans, driving old trucks on old roads, and we are bitter because we struggle and aren't very smart.

I guess porn stars get similar conversation. Guy walks up holding his goobers in his hand thinking he can be a porn star just because he has a pickle. Never had a session go longer than 3 minutes in a private setting, but he thinks he can do better with a room full of people with lights and cameras 3 inches off Uranus.

Sure son, keep holding your pickle while talking.

And every prospective restaurant owner thinks they can cook.

Potential new start ups thinking they know how to do something is not unique to trucking.

I disagree. Every prospective restaurant owner thinks they can HIRE a cook. But the prospective restaurant owner needs start up capital. The O/O can lease to own a truck with no capital.

A non plumber or non electrician KNOWS he can’t do that work because it’s a skilled trade requiring ~3yrs training. Not so with truck driving.

anyone with a driver’s license thinks driving a truck isn’t so hard and the sharks that prey upon these fools perpetuate the myth.

Truck drivers are stupid and they’re smart therefore they will be different. plus they get to sight see America In a big shiny Peterbilt and eat out every day. The picture of freedom on the Rand McNally Atlas.....”I can do that”.
