Thinking about US Foods or Sysco

What would you recommend doing for someone who wants to be local?

 

They just offer me a position there for a class b truck but im still lost about the whole pay and stuff and do u still work there ?

 

Its probably case pay (number of cases+stops+miles+whatever bonus they decide). Being northeast it should be a union house but I'm not 100% on that either. I have been with them for going on 6 years in the midwest at a nonunion house and have very little complaints. Is it work yes are you gonna be broke down by 40 no 2/3s of the guys at my yard are 45+ with over 15 years seniority and still pushing a two wheeler everyday.

 

No, I left after 2 years. With a straight truck be ready to go to Manhattan, Brooklyn and Bronx. It's hard work and they do pay by case, minimum per day was $210 when I left.

 

did you start in a straight truck ? And yea they were telling me they only cover all of new jersey only and some parts like new york and ct and even told me if i was to call you at like 12am to
Come in to work would you come and you know its a interview so i was like yea lolol and im only gonna be there to earn some exp and then i am out to find a better company

 

How much driving is actually involved in food service

 

It depends. I work for a domicile that was set up to eliminate layover routes, so our longest routes are around 200 miles, with most under 100 and many under 50. Some centers that service huge areas might have routes that are well in excess of a thousand miles, taking multiple days to complete.

All depends on the company, the center, and the route.

 

I was in a straight truck only for a few days after training. They put me out on long island yard which was good because I live on the island, I mainly left because I wanted to try being owner operator, when I do get tired of this I might go back to them it's good money I was grossing around $1500-1600/week.
