Keep backing until it sounds expensive.

On a side note, I was parked at a TS late at night to take my 30. The guy trying to park next to me took 8 pull ups to back into a straight line next to me. Never even thought my headlights could have effected his backing.

I used to shut my headlights off on my KW as soon as I get in the yard. In my new international they stay on if the parking brake is released. Can’t stand that.

It really does. I had a few where I had to pull up a million times like that because I couldn't see.
Good man, I'll say thank you for everyone who's had to move a trailer near you at night.

How do you turn them off? It’s fine when I’m driving on the road but when I’m in a lot somewhere I’d like to turn them off because they seem to distract/annoy people around me. Btw, I’m in a 2016 Mack single screw. It’s the actual headlights on with a little bit (but not much) reduced brightness.

Sorry I should’ve been more clear that I’m driving on drop lots in this instance. There’s sometimes 4 of us moving trailers around a storage lot for different customers. The two or three lots we work are fairly well lit so it would be best if we could work with running lights only. In SwampRats case I would absolutely agree. Pull that yellow knob out if you’re not moving.

They’re probably tied to the parking brake, so they’ll be on anytime the brakes are released.

In a Mack the DRLs may be in the same bulb, so there may be nothing you can do. My Peterbilt on the other hand has them in a separate one.

Man this night ended rough. Last truck of the night that needed parked was a bulk twin screw with a 53 and no real room to put it in its hole. The senior guy in the yard (who has been behind the wheel as long as I've been alive so I respect the hell out of his wisdom he's willing to share) tells me to put it away sightside...there was only room to blindside from the way I seen it. I'm back asswards because I can blindside better than sightside and he doesn't like that because we should always sightside (I can't argue with that). So I go to put the truck in there and had like five pull ups and four goals and was really embarrassed because by this time the one linehaul driver was now waiting for me to get out of the way (he's also been driving as long as I've been alive). I finally get the truck in its hole and they both come over and told me I did a good job (I don't see it, it took me forever) It did honestly feel good to have those two say that because they are both awesome drivers but man was I embarrassed, I felt like it was my first time in reverse. The senior yard guy has been doing this to me a lot lately, he's putting me in more and more positions out of my comfort zone. I'm not complaining because he's doing it to help me be a better driver but holy crap lol. I was in a truck with ac and dripping sweat from the stress lol. It was bad enough having to back in there a way I didn't want to and honestly was questioning if it was even possible (I was wrong because it obviously was) but to have two guys watching made it that much harder trying not to look like a non driving idiot.

    GOAL... check
    Pull up... check
    No accident/collision/damage... check
    No injury or death... check

Yep, did a #### good job, no matter how embarrassed you felt. The important thing about this scenario (I think) is that the true professionals in this industry, recognize difficulty and offer positive reinforcement and help to someone, regardless of skill set, you're lucky to have guys like that in your yard.
