This guy said his truck generates $1.15 per mile to the truck pulling a container out of NJ.
His English wasn't so good but I was able to understand what he was saying.
Is this normal?
$1.15 per mile. The new standard?

That’s why those trucks are POS’s and abused like a rented mule? Engine’s crying for some loving seeing as they slow down to 45 at the smallest hills. #### I’d rather work at a fast food joint make little less money but with way less risk lol
Upinsmoke, konfidential, Bakerman and 3 others Thank this. -
No its not the new standard. Its the expression on how stupid some owners of tractors have become when they fail to tell the broker NO and refuse to haul for below cost at a loss to their trucking business. Eventually many of these will go out of business and be a bad memory. Rates will come back up at a later time Probably a couple of years or so.
I just examined some new products scheduled to be built in China and shipped here for sale about late 2020 and the pricing imposed on the MSRP is getting way out of hand. I suspect the people will refuse to buy it at those high pricing.
In the meantime anyone taking freight for less than say 2.50 a mile is going to be a failure at some point in this business. It's only natural.jbatmick, Upinsmoke and rabbiporkchop Thank this. -
As far as I know container work was/is the bottom of barrel work in terms of pay. I have never seen a nice truck doing that work, only junkers

Ive totaled tractors doing container work. Which is the reason I don't do containers anymore. Its just not worth it.
Ive had some good times on the bay and tide water running those things however at 21 and being treated badly by the bosses in that Port East back then for the wages they paid for example 48 dollars to Norfolk from 2 am all the way to 8 PM then back to Baltimore before midnight.
48 #### dollars gross in a day cab no less.
I quit. I aint getting back into it. All the boss had to do was issue a small 36 inch mack sleeper tractor hand me a box to florida once a week and a box back for a grand gross of 760 a week. That was real big money in those days. But no. And so it goes. -
Upinsmoke Thanks this.

If the doctors say there is nothing wrong with me against a DOT medical panel, I can have a card in a hour and a permit in another hour for CDLA formally wait until 15th day and back into CDLA with small fee and so forth. Nothing major not for those who were grandfathered.
The good news is that the broken valves and hoses can be replaced with new parts. easy. If they reveal one of two issues that is totally pernament then I will be waiting to give hospice a call when its time to do so.Upinsmoke Thanks this. -
I was getting $1.25 in 1996 hauling banana containers from Biloxi
Upinsmoke Thanks this. -
What a shame this industry has come to.
Company driver's making 45 cents per mile and owner operators pulling for a $1.15.
Anything else that can help drive down rates and wages around here?Upinsmoke, rabbiporkchop, JonJon78 and 2 others Thank this.
