Today, I did a preliminary accounting reconnaissance.
I thought I was doing better....lol!!!!!
There is no escape from the naked truth. The facts are that I already exceeded the total mileage of 2018 and netted over $30 000 less for that work load.
I grossed YTD $145 000 when at this mileage of 2018 I was at $180,200.
Cost per mile is exactly the same 1.02 c per mile + realistic driver's pay 55.c per mile (I-99) = 1.57. Gross pay of Loaded mile: $1.80... All odometer per per mile: 1.68
Would I have been better off with JB Hunt Power Only for 1.80?
In 2018: Gross rate per loaded mile: 2.68 per ----------- all miles $2,15
Conclusion: This is a bad time and it will better improve ....or I will apply to be a WM driver with a nice white uniform in an International LT.....
LOL!
It is early...but I need a drink!
Fact: 2019 will have been a very bad year already. Could I be better off as a company driver or not?

Having the luxury of going faster than 65 and being able to go home when I want is priceless. I hate working for the man.

Unless something drastically changes in my life I don’t see me going back to a company truck, and if I did no way could I work for one of those micromanaging companies.
I know everyone is different, but for me when I stopped worrying about the money is when the money seemed to come a lot easier. -
I don't know what to think of it. This business takes some energy and health and over all sacrifice and not to be adequately rewarded financially for all that does not calculate right.
There could be a down cycle and a better wave may be oncoming but it's always too short.
In my opinion, there is too little reward.
There could be some, who will come here and say what hundreds of thousands they've been making but I am talking about a general picture and don't care about someone else's bragging. I don't think that my own operations are that much different from the general population. So the general conclusion is that there is no money.SL3406, Western flyer, bzinger and 2 others Thank this. -
You're not the only one. Keep on trucking it'll get better eventually.
JB Hunt will have you running around for a $1 a mile, don't do it. -

Spot Market guys (Yeah,The ones with a truck and authority) Just cant find the answers right now...
And I'm surprised not seeing much "Honesty" about it either posting publicly..
Hats off to you Joe for not feeling like you've lost Pride and posting the truth- You'll get Crickets outta the Rest while they struggle to buy christmas gifts and contemplate selling their truck n trailer while the wife is saying "See,I told you so,Now look, I told you not to buy a truck"
You can also thank the FMCSA for handing out authority like candy to anyone and everyone....
I dont see a recovery either for a good while- it would have by now...Even in 08' there was still work to grab-dailyblairandgretchen, SL3406, Western flyer and 6 others Thank this. -

When I bought my first truck, an old dump truck. I was given some advise from an old trucker that has stuck. He knew I was used to big paychecks, and told me to never look back at what I could have made last week or year, if I intended to work for myself.
It is hard to run the same freight as everybody else and command premium pay, at that point we really have nothing to sell except for on time service. When a guy does that he is just chasing miles and needing more all the time.
A guy really needs to find something that others, can't do, or don't want to do to set them selves apart from the bazillion other trucks out there chasing miles.
Even here some guys think they have to have 3000 miles a week, I would have never been a trucker if I had of had to run 3000 miles a week, week after week.
I don't any more, but have been known to park mine and run somebody elses truck, when the money is there to be made, or the money was not where I wanted it to be running mine.SL3406, Western flyer, Oxbow and 9 others Thank this.
