On order from the dealer, it was one of the things I was considering as well so went ahead and ordered it when I picked up the EPS. The dealer called it a filter screen, part number
    146483, for anyone also looking.
The fuel filter was one of the first things that got changed when this whole misadventure began :). Only reason I'm leaning on the EPS is because it'll run fine until you let it warm up, and then all hell will break loose. That and the fuel system looks tight, everything from the jumpers in the head to the fuel filter is dry as a bone.

Issue seems to be algae in the tank. Stopped up the check valve and kept it from fueling right, currently have some biocide sitting in the tanks to kill off and hopefully break up the large clumps of algae in the pickups/lines. Looks like I get to pull the saddles off and give them a good cleaning. Any recommendations on methodology?

Can't you bypass the tanks, get a 5 gallon bucket of fuel and run a fuel line to the pump and see if it runs any better? Just my 2 cents.

That always seemed to be found when the tanks are full. So that’s what I’m betting on here.

Many people have said when algae is found they put the biocide in and then have to change the F filters often for the next forever!!!.

If it where mine, and it can be shut down for a while. I would put in the chemicals in, let it sit a week. And try to drain the bottoms off. Then rig up a fuel barrel pump with a stinger and a largest filter you can find to (it wouldn’t have to be that low of micron rating). Use the stinger to suck from the bottom of the tank moving it from front to back. And pump it back into the tank till you don’t see any Floaties with a flash light.

As always keep an extra set of fuel filters in the truck when it hits the road.

Yes sir, that's what the dealer recommended to do as a diagnostic step, ran with no probs with a Jerry can strapped on top of the fender. Issue is the ECU doesn't get cooled and that's a big nono according to them, makes sense to me though.
I was thinking of pulling the tanks and heating them up to dry out the algae and then vacuuming, a PITA but it seems more sure fire than trusting some chemicals to keep stuff dead. My only real fear is warping the tank if it gets too hot in one place. I'll be maintaining a biocide regime and keeping a spare filter and filter screen at all times. I'm also planning on installing a prefilter to keep this from happening in the future.

Update time, pulled the fuel filter to change it out and found it full of sludge, the thing barely had an hour of runtime on it, swapped it out and the thing ran like a raped ape.
I decided against pulling the tanks just because KW refused to give me a fuel line diagram and I didn't want to screw the hoses up. I'm going to be swapping in my old fuel filters, I change them religiously at 5k and they still have a lot of life to give, and at the end of the week, I'll be hitting the road with a fresh one on the pump and one in the sleeper box.
I'm thinking of waiting until the fuel runs out and dropping the tank drains and pressure washing them with a strong degreaser or biocide to get rid of all the trash on the sides of the tank as well and then letting it air dry for a hot day before retreating with a biocide. Does that seem excessive or just an aggressive way of fighting the algae?

Thanks for all the help everyone, this truck went from running like crap to being road worthy way quicker than I thought it would.

Alright, didn't want to start a new thread so I'm just going to continue here. I've got a leak in between the compressor and the fuel pump, doesn't smell like diesel so I'm assuming its oil. I'm kind of working on slowly narrowing down why the left side of the block is soaked in oil, and there's no oil leak above this leak so it's a suspect for sure. How hard is it to pull the fuel pump off? Anything I should look at doing with it off?

Buy the special wrench and replace the plastic spider coupling. Soak fuel lines for a couple days with good penetrating oil.

Did you get it to run how it's supposed to ?
I've got exactly the same problem as you describe and I feel like I've been chasing ghosts so far . Any details would be greatly appreciated , thanks .

It is running but I'm still unhappy with the idle. What problem are you having, the smoking or the misfire because they were unrelated issues that manifested together?
