    Hey all,
Is 219 between i76 and i 68 ok for trucks?
I'm trying to get from buffalo ny to my crawford va, btw. I called my dispatch, but no real help there. As far as I can tell, the best way is:
    1. I 90 w
    2. I 79 s
    3. I 76 e
    4. Us 219 s
    5. I 68 e
    6. I 70 e
    7. I 81 s

    Anyone know a better route?
    Thx
    Steve

When I punch in Buffalo, NY to Mt Crawford, VA my truck GPS offers 2 routes.

    1. I-79 549 miles, $15.90 tolls
    2. Go to Syracuse and then I-81S 681 miles, $29.74 tolls

Check the road atlas for route restrictions. If you don't own an atlas, stop at the next truck stop and look in one and then buy it.

Vic Firth and starmac Thank this.

If it was me? Straight east on 20 from Buffalo or pay a few dollars toll until Batava Route 63 I think runs SE until I-390 You kind of don't want to go all the way to R'cster to grab that road, Rush will be stiff when you get over there today)

I-390 south to Painted Post NY which is juction for I-99 (OLD US15, a wonderful wonderful trucking road)

In PA you will see 99 turn into US 15 don't have to do anything. Just dead south by the river at a city called Williamsport.

You will find US 220 a divided valley highway all the way to pittsburgh more or less. Follow that going west or south as the signs go until you hit I-80 (You are east of Milesburg-Snowshow at this time in this winter storm that's VERY useful information because big mountains start where you are at there)

Follow I-80 West until about 161 there is a ramp that will put you onto US 220 provided you turn left at the end of it. Go under the interstate and roll on US 220.

With these thoughts in mind, run the NY Turnpike east until you hit 390.

390 until Painted Post (NY State, I-99 interchange.... it is ACTUALLY old US 15 probably rebuilt to interstate code)

Run south on I-99 into PA.

At williamsport you go east on I-180. (Now US 15 leaves you and crossed the river in your face, you ask me why don't I go that way still? because there is a one hell of a mountain south of williamsport and a nice professional platform scale house on the other side of it. Combined with Williamsbort Rush, you don't need that hassle. Stop and go.

I-180 is a autobahn on flat ground. A expressway to heaven. You rock and roll first east then curve south to follow the river on your right dead south at high speed on flat ground.

You will run into I-80 interstate. HOP ON going WEST>

Just long enough to get across the river. And head SOUTH on US 15. Its going to be the first interchange on the west bank of the river.

Trust me is WAY easier for you to do this. I usually stayed on 147 until the Shamokin Dam below that spot in several large towns with the associated traffic etc.

(Side note... MAKE SURE YOU ARE LEGAL in weight, ELD Hours etc. There are plenty of places you can stick a big truck legally on the route I am giving you without all that heavy mountain crap on the old map route.

EVENTUALLY you will see US 22 just BEFORE you reach Duncannon PA (And more importantly the Junitia River, you don't take a 53 foot past that bridge because you are now going to Marysville PA which is TOTALLY no room for you and your enormous obnoxious 53 foot 110 inches wide tractor trailer at 75 feet long. There IS NO ROOM.)

You follow US22 on the other side of the big river until I-81 at harrisburg.

Go EAST on I-81 until you know that you see PA-581 south.

Hop on that big ramp and run PA 581 south. They call it the capital beltway, harrisburg expressway, highway 581.. WHATEVER.. WHATEVER. as long you see those letters and numbers PA 581 you are good going south.

    BE CAREFUL here.

Your PA581 turns into US 11 east.

GO with the flow and MAKE SURE do not take any exits on that 581, like Exit three or any other exits ESPECIALLY. The reason is you are skirting Mechanicsburg which has signs trapping and banning you for which you stand to be arrested locally and held for a judge to hear your excuse sometime. And your right side has a ginormous Navy Base Joint on your west.

It WILL flow into 11 west without any action on your part.

That goes to US 15 south

Exit 5B. Link to real world google map image of this exit. You need to be on this ramp where you see that flatbed in front of you far to the right. This is the camp hill area. If anyone is going to screw up somewhere it's going to be here. Don't.

    Google Maps

    STAY on US 15 south.

All the way to Frederick Maryland.

Take US 340/US 15 west Your objective in this beautiful mountain land is to cross Harpers Ferry WVA and climb that big ridge to Charlestown. Turn Left to stay on US 340

Turn right onto WVa Route 7 for Winchester. I think there is a major light at that intersection now and MAYBE a small diner on a couple acres at Rippion WVa if they are still open. If they ARE, Keep a eye out when you hit a set of S curved twisties. It will be nestled on the right hand side of US 340 situated in such a way heavy braking is required to get he speed off her. Which will probably send a chirp to your safety for pulling too many G in braking per second per second. Come through slow you will know the twisties when you see it. You will see and think it goes this way whoops now we are going that way and getting tighter. You are pretty close to WVa Route 7 at this point which itself is NOT far from US 50 which you need to write that route number onto a stone facing Hell for it is what it came from (DC) and where it's going. There is a set of scales on it at US 15 in Manassas which is why I put you on Harpers Ferry to bypass the 65 foot truck length restriction.

There are 4 ways to get a big rig to Winchester. But Route 7 is reasonable.

Hop on I-81 and run down to your Crawford.

It should take you all day. 11 hours. Mileage maybe around 540 total. Maybe.

Horsepower is MUCH more important than miles and fuel savings eco crap on this mountain run. I made you bypass the worst of this. You don't have any idea of the sawteeth that waits for you west of US 15 and gets worse all the way to Wheeling and New River George.
